Will pre-paid mispriced hotel room be honoured?

  • I agree the contract lies between the OP and TR, ideally it would be nice to phone TR and ask but doing so could make the aware of the mistake, if indeed it is a mistake.
Yes you could kep quiet, then run the risk of turning up and getting found out by the hotel of the price you paid.
In my experience of using websites and pre-paying my voucher has never displayed a price, does the one from TR????

It's not so much the price being found out by the hotel, rather that if a request comes from TR or whichever agent TR bought through with that price the hotel will likely reject it and will not make the booking in the first place. If it were me I wouldn't risk turning up at the hotel to find I didn't have a room booked at all!
  • Can not post a link due to being new, put look at Hotelconnect's T+C's. They also had that room at a cheap rate, indeed if my memory is right the cheapest out of all 4.

From reading them, does anyone else read them as them being direct agents for the hotel, and no mention of "what hapens if the price is wrong"????

I know they are not the company involved, but surely if HC an ABTA member had a cheap rate, as "direct agents" (may be wrong, but as mentioned that's the impression I get from their site/T+C's) then even if the others worked through a middle man, HC would not be linked by anyone to Asda, TR or 1800 Hotels.

Hope I make sense I know what I mean lol,

(My contact is investigating without getting TR involved, so will keep you posted. Off for a nosey around the rest of this site, see whose SOA's I can read lol)

My suggestion would be wait till the money is taken from the card, then a legal contract exists (going on Bens comments) between OP and TR, as TR have then accepted the payment. By doing so I would guess they would of booked your room, or if they have one, their provider would have, after confirming money has been debited from you, you could then ring the hotel and find out if a room is booked.

Apologies if this is incorrect, but is it you triggerhappy who works in a hotel?
If so, would the booking show up in the hotels system now or not until closer to the date?

Looking at the booking confirmation, it does indeed state that "Travel Republic acts as an agent for the above named accommodation provider" Listed above is HotelConnect.

I haven't heard anything more from TR, I was expecting an e-mail from them cancelling but nothing. I have logged into my account with TR and the booking is confirmed and the credit card has been debited.

Update to this story. It appears I have been very lucky with this.

On the evening I had booked my reservation through Travel Republic, I had also tried to book with Asda Travel for the same night at the hotel but that didn't appear to be successful. I received no acknowledgement, confirmation/voucher etc. I then took the risk and booked it through Travel Republic, who have confirmed the booking. Today I received a call from Asda travel saying that my booking with them had been received but the hotel would only honour the booking with Travel Republic but not the one with them, as they would not supply two rooms to me on the same night at such a cheap price. Fair enough, I could hardly use the second room anyway!

The lady seemed amazed that I got it at the price, she was very vague and suggested at one point it was a very good special offer and then hinted it may be a system error. Unfortunately Asda refused to refund the money I had paid to them, nor will the hotel allow me to allow a friend or relative to use the second room without paying a change of name surcharge which will cost me the regular price of the room (£320). Nor could I just have two rooms for the night. I was put in the impossible position of being told I could not use the room I had paid for nor allow anyone else to use it at the price I paid without paying a hefty penalty. Needless to say I will refer them to their T&Cs about not being able to provide accommodation and ask for a full refund. That is a minor issue, I am pretty chuffed at getting this room extremely cheap.

I will now email Travel Republic to get their guarantee in writing that the room is mine. However, from what Asda say, the hotel will fufil my Travel Republic booking.

But it gets better. Whilst checking Travel Supermarket a couple of nights ago I noticed the same hotel (The Westbury, Mayfair) were still doing the same £20 price Superior Single rooms on a different Saturday in July, normal price £320. So, I booked another room, this time through 1-800 hotels. I phoned them today and the nice American lady stated that the room I booked was guaranteed as they block book them and as soon as you receive the voucher the room is 100% yours.

The moral of the story is if it looks too good to be true, ignore that old cliche, still go for it and take a punt. For me it looks like I have £640 worth of 5* London Mayfair hotel rooms with breakfast for £40 total on Saturdays in June and July.

As 1-800 hotels also seem to give a cast iron guarantee that once you have the voucher the room is yours, book through them if you find a cheap deal. Unlike Travel Republic's website there are no E&OE type conditions in 1-800 hotels T&Cs either.
  • well done, been away for a few days and had some news, but looks like you got the same result without it lol.

What was the news you had Welshdebtor?

My contact who works for the ******, wrote to Hotelconnect pretending she had seen the low price on the day you saw it.However by the time she wanted to book a few hours later it had shot up to about £200. And she wanted to know if it was a mistake or if she had missed out on a great deal. This is the reply to her made up story :)

    Hi **********,

Wow, £17.53 for a night in a 5 star, that sounds amazing!
As far as I know we haven't had any special deals like that recently so all I can think is that this might have been an error with the travelsupermarket site.

Though if you see a price on a website from a UK company and book it at that price, they have to honour it.
So I understand that you are gutted but life goes on and I guess just keep your eyes out for more bargains like that!

    Regards
