I'm not trying to have an argument just for the sake of it here - I really am interested if there are regulations governing this that I don't know about, but if there are I would be rather surprised.

LOL found some, but they do not cover TR as their T&C's state they are not covered by Package Holiday Regs (which are not the ones I had in mind). Sure I have seen/read some regs that cover UK one night Hotel stays, grrr so annoying when things hide in the worldwide web lol

The rack rate should always be displayed somewhere around reception, you're right there.
