I am not laughing as i may be in a similar position. As you will know i am just in the process of insuring son no 1 and my middle son is aged 14 years and 10 months so will probably have 2 sons for the Fiesta, oh dear!

Yes, sorry for hijacking your thread, I have a quote from 17 to 40 for a Corsa 1.2 for £1500, the problem is, we as yet, don't have a Corsa.
The next probem is, my younger son will be 17 in September, the same time as my oldest son will be going to university(hopefuly), so he will not be using the car, but my younger son will. This is why we want to make my wife the registered keeper and owner.

Have you looked at comprehensive?
If so with a car of that value it can be worth not claiming for your own damage as he will have a big excess eg circa £450 and will not earn any no claims bonus (Plus may get a loading) which makes a big difference to the next year premium. On this basis its worth considering increasing the excess which will reduce the premium by a fair amount. He will end up with in effect a TPF&T policy but with windscreeen cover (As windscreen excesses generally remain at circa £75 and normally don't affect no claims bonus) With most companies you only pay the excess if you are claiming for your own damage so if the other party claims off you but you don;t claim you don't pay an excess.
It's not for everyone but on a low value car it can be worth considering.
Another thing to consider is his birthday, which month is his next birthday?0 -
It can save you a lot of money if you can get the renewal of his policy to be after his birthday as his renewal (And future renewals) will be based on him being a year older each year0

Diesel44, i remember i've tried 17 to 40, but no good for me. It mentions that accelerater thing ontheir website, not sure about that. Despite what the experts say on here and i am not going to do it, but i bet you that there are tons out there, who have themselves as the main driver, whilst in reality their offspring are the main drivers and not the named driver, i bet a lot of them are unaware of the rules. I didn't even know that your built up NCD is only available for 1 car.0
