Born 30/09/1992, passed driving test 13/01/ 2010. Buying Fiesta 1.25 style climate 2008 (old type) 13000 miles, cost £5400. In his own name, with comprehensive, the lowest quote is £2600 from Quinn Direct, which my insurance, Churchill will match. I have tried all the comparison sites, as well as others and can not find lower. I have tried with me (dad) being the main driver and my son as the named driver but as , i believe i am not able to put my NCD on, i have not been able to reduce. With my wife as main driver, Quinn will do it for £1968. I don't think it is to be found cheaper, but if there are any Dads out there who have just got insurance for their son, please post. With respect i don't want to hear from people who arranged years ago (that will be out of date) or from people who arranged insurance for their daughter. (they are just cheaper) Just want to hear experiences for 17 year old sons. I am aware of the "fronting" non legality. I guess the reality will be to pay up the £2600 and at least get the NCD working for him, providing that there will be no claims. Am i right in saying that MY NCD is for use ONLY on my own car and that when filling in the forms, for when i am the main driver, i have to put NO years for NCD.

So the £2600 quotes were for you as main driver, and your son as a named driver? Have you asked for a quote with your son as main driver and you as named driver?
Perhaps he needs to consider a car with a smaller 1.0 litre engine."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
I am a 20 year old male and been driving since I was 17 with my own car in my own name. So I guess my prices are still relevant.
My first year I was with Elephant and paid £1300ish for a 1litre mini. Since then I have been with Admiral who I think are very reasonably priced. I have built up a few years NCB now though.
Have you got a comparison at confused.com? Some people dislike comparison sites but I think they are great for finding the cheapest insurer, then getting a direct quote from said insurer.
If it's any consolation, after he gets his first years no claims, the prices will drop dramatically! I went from paying £1300 for a mini in my first year, to £1100 for a 1.8litre 306 in my second year. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
Also the car is VERY new, could he not drive a banger for the first few yrs to get his NCD up a bit?
The insurance does seem reasonable tho as i know of many 17yr old boys in £2k corsas paying £2k+ in insurance for the first yr third party only. You are only paying 50% of the cars value!
Corsas are group 2 insurance i think fiestas are group 4 or 5, might make a couple hundred pound difference but ultimately not much.0 -
Why don't people search before asking this question? It's getting ridiculous! This comes up at least every day, if not several times a day, and the answers are always the same.
YOUNG MEN ARE HIGH RISK SO THEY COST A LOT TO INSURE!!!!I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

You're clearly not aware of "fronting" if you are still doing quotes with other people as the main drivers! :mad:I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

Manin street, i am sorry for not being clear. £2600 quote was for insurance in HIS OWN NAME, with me as a named driver.
iamana Please do not be so rude. New people come on hear every day. But i have actually searched on here and other forums. I was not aware of "fronting" before i read these, but i am now. Also i was not aware that your NCD is only allowed for one car. If you do not like what you see in the heading, may i suggest you do not bother to read the thread if it is of no value to you. As your comments are not very helpful.
I have tried Elephant and Swinton and a lot of others but to avail. I think perhaps the newness of car may be a factor. It looks like we are going to have to bote the bullet and pay the cash. Unless someone in our position replies and names a recent quote from a different insurer.0 -

You're not new, you joined in Feb 08 - almost 2 years ago!
You didn't even post on the insurance board (which might have been a helpful start).
How did you manage to find out about fronting but not find all the millions of threads about 17 year old male car insurance?!I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

You continue to be unhelpful, i have not posted probably since then, but then again you can check for me! FYI i did a search on here and like minded ones came up on this section. I may well put my question on the "insurance " section. What does it matter to you? You seem to have a bee in your bonnet about nothing that really should concern you. As i say if there is anyone out there in a similar position, then i would to hear from you, i do not want to hear frm you "iamamna1as, as you have nothing helpful to contribute. As i repeat i am thinking i will have to pay £26000

That sounds reasonable to me, my daughters 17 year old bf is paying £3600 for his insurance for a 04 reg ford fiesta having been driving since July.
Like they say young boys are very expensive to insure0
