Bl**dy typical! Just when I have discovered this thread and I drive a FOCUS MrsE!!! Mine is fine and have lots of gadgets and my stalks are fine
and do all sorts of things with them.... like change radio station, volume, miles to gallon (I don't do metric), outside temp, how much weight I've lost, what time it is, apply mascara and indicate when I feel like it.... 
Lots of models in the Focus range - sounds like you got a basic cheap cr4p one...
Next time, ask for a Land Cruiser! They are nice Genie
