re breakfast cereal: I've always thought it was a swizz for calories: I find commercial cereal actually seems to be enough to act as an appetiser without being very filling...so it actually makes me hungry when I wouldn't normally be even if I hadn't eaten anything! Porridge is a winner.QUOTE]

I tend to agree. I have porridge ( well ready brek cos it's quicker) each morning and I can generally last quite happily til lunchtime. If I have toast or cereal I'm looking for something to eat by 11.00.

If there was a microwave at the office I'd probbaly have it for lunch too - I'm generally starving by the time I get home. There are no cooking or even reheating facilities here so I'm very limited in my lunch choices.

Hmm. I wonder if making it in the morning in tupperware and siting in in a bowl of hot water (in the tupperware) would work? I have real porridge because I can, but when we have an early start, (e.g. Mondays we are up at 5:15, and I will be on Frid too) I make it the night before and reheat on the hob in the morning.

Some are 45 gram servings....you have to read the labeling. Either feels smallish, which, when you consider how much more than 30 g 45 grams is, is worrying!

I think I'm trying to say I don't follow what the packet says the serving sizes are :o I have what fills me up and count the calories accordingly.

How much does half to 2/3rds a tea mug of porridge oats weigh?
Packet serving size says 40g and 135 calories. I'm estimating 200 calories worth including a little semi-skimmed milk and the water.

TBC, I'm talking about commercial cereals, not porridge. :) (special k, bran flakes, grapre nuts, cheerios, cocopops, whatever...I mean boxes of cereals, I'm with you n porridge).

FWIW DH has porridge a lot too, but also maintains well when having a full english: he is convinced it doesn't matter what he eats as breakfast ......and it works for him in a way it wouldn't for me!

I'm on a double porridge day today. Don't have the time to make it from scratch at work but the Oatso Simple packets are a godsend and really yummy.

I find sultana bran nice and filling but I don't really bother with other breakfast cereals. Porridge or toast does me nicely and if I'm honest, I don't find much difference in my hunger levels if I have one or the other. But then I can generally plod along quite happily till lunchtime without breakfast anyway. It's the late afternoon when fullness from lunch has worn off and I know I've got to go home and cook from scratch that I get starving.

    Afternoon :)

Utter bedlam at mine, CH being fitted your share my pain on Thursday coco:rotfl:
Talking of porridge its supposed to be good at lowering colesterol something to bear in mind coco if you dont already eat the stuff.

Todays gone a bit belly up i managed to have a boil egg &toast for breckie but couldnt get in the kitchen to make any lunch so im sitting here stuffing my face with toast. so it will be a micro veggie lasagne and salad for me & DH and the kids can have a takeout pizza, to cook i would have to become an contortionist as there is no point clearing the kitchen till they finish laying the pipework tomorrow.

Exercise was carrying the bricks from the old nightstorage heater, them things weigh a ton! im sure my arms are 2" longer then they were this morning.

    Have a good evening everyone

Well I've been pretty good today I think - the Ready Brek was followed by a chicken salad sandwich with yoghurt rather than mayo . The OH was home first so got to cook - potato and bean bake which was very nice and I still have enough calories left for a glass of wine later.
