Hello all,
Its turning into a crazy month, so diet has kinda gone to the wall, we are still eating well but at funny times and as for cal counting i can remember what i had for breckfast let alone how many cals was in it...i need sleep badly.
Im optimistic for weighing in this week as i've had to add a belt to my jeans for the first time in forever. DH just makes snide comments that i've shrunk due to the cold (still no heating), he's just scared that im catching his weight loss up
Have a great evening everyone, dont eat anything i would :rotfl:0 -
Thanks for all the kinds words girls (and guys).lostinrates wrote: »Tara, how tall are you, what size? is it possible that you weight is ctually not so bad as you think and where you should naturally be...my maths is rubbish, but I think that makes you about 9.5 stone? I was about size ten at that weight and when I was lighter I looked less good, and that would be a great region of weight for me now....but didn't know it at the time:o.
I am 5'3" and believe me, I look fat! My ideal weight is between 8 and 8.5 stone. I honestly look so chubby and bloated, none of my clothes fit... I need to tone up as well.lostinrates wrote: »No offense taken! I am not religiously active, but was bought up in the catholic tradition (which I respect if do not believe myself, I love the traditions and am undeniably shaped by them) and think periods of abstinence are quite good for one. I usually abstain from alcohol from new year till end of march, but had some wine in Paris, (I'm good but not that good!) We cover our bases, we do a lot of the pagan and Jewish festivals too....
but I agree with you, sustained healthy eating is a great aim, and a healthy one.
I totally agree with this. I have read a lot about fasting and it seems to have health benefits. In any case, I am religious and have observed Lent since childhood (not just as a diet aid lol). I always give up sweet stuff, although I fell off the wagon spectacularly last year. I am determined to do better this year, and am using it as a kick start to my new low-sugar self! I crave sugar so badly, and am fully prepared for the cravings, headaches etc that I will experience in the next few days. I will deal with them and feel better for resisting them. Resisting a sugar craving will not make me feel as bad as giving in to it! I almost feel a sense of relief that I won't be eating all that stuff for the next 7 weeks and am going to try to kick the habit completely.poshstock66 wrote: »
TARA747 - I would like to join you in giving something up for lent, let me have a think and I'll get back to you...........think it's gonna be difficult to choose though when you feel like that you've given up nearly everything 'nice' anyway!! :rotfl:
Good for you! I think my problem is that I'm haven't really 'given up' anything yet, so I really need to get a move on! I am supposed to be losing weight after all! :rotfl: If you think that you have no vices left (so to speak), you could try to do something positive (e.g. do a good turn every day, take a walk every day etc, put 20p in a tin every time you swear) instead.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Hi guys just to say I found a pancake recipe where you use half plain flour and half wholemeal, also replace white sugar with brown and only use the egg white, I dont have the recipe as im at work but they are really yummy and healthy:o
for Lent I think I'm gonna try and instead of giving something up I will try and eat more fruit and veg everyday and hopefully the habit will stick:D
I just find if I deprive myself I will want it even more
That is true... but I need to deprive myself a bit more!!! :rotfl:
I've just ordered 'French Women Don't Get Fat' online, I have always wanted to read it and it was only £2 something. I'm going to be reading all my diet/exercise/positive thinking/healthy living/why am I fat/low cal cooking/self help books during Lent too (yes I am Bridget Jones).lostinrates wrote: »Oh, d'uh, meant to say today that yesterdays veg juice was divine....it really filled a craving gap. Today I fancy fish, so rushed a=out and bought some....I'm trying hard to listen to my body. Fish is a fear zone/weak spot in my cooking, and I stick to recipes and methods I know and trust, but tonight I'm trying haddock in a foil parcel in the oven. I'm going to try hard not to hyperventilate about timings (I never seem to get fish right in a foil parcel, when I check first its undercooked and then I overcook it....)
Sounds like a great idea!!! PMK suggests really listening to your bidy and giving it what it wants... I might try that. I just have to expand the groceries budget a bit as what I want is usually expensive fruit, veg and fish! But what the hell.
Good luck with the fish, I'm always paranoid about timimgs with it as well xo
p.s. a guy at work suggested giving up the internet for Lent... I almost choked on my tea!!!Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

My mother raved about this, ate leek soup for ages, and lost zilch. The reason my french, and italian, friends are slim is mainly that they run on caffeine, cigarette smoke, and have more self control and identitiy of themselves as feminine objects. they eat with discipline, as families, and almost never as ''girls together'' or alone.0 -

I'm only 5'2 - don't think I'll ever get down to the 8stones
Good luck with Lent Tara. Hope you don't find it too horrible to fight those sugar cravings!
I seem to be really craving salt at the moment which is very unlike me.0 -

OK, it was worth checking! At 8 stone I look really ill...so it was worth checking with you. (In fact DH has specifically said if I get that thin again I better plan to be fed like a french duck ).
I wonder if exercise is the key for you?0 -

Hmmm. :rotfl:
You are right about their discipline, I lived abroad for a bit and the girls in those countries are soooo strict about their food. They feel that no chocolate pud is worth getting fat for - and they're right! And they enjoy their food! I guess they eat consciously like PMK advises...
I did have the same attitude once - and I'm hoping I can get it back.I'm only 5'2 - don't think I'll ever get down to the 8stones

Thanks. I am determined to beat the cravings! If I could even get back to 8.5 stone I would be sooo happy. I'll be on here looking for support.
