  • Well done everyone

Sadly i've gained a pound. Back to calorie counting i think, and I have a gym trip planned for tommorrow afternoon

Went for a walk in the peaks yesterday but unfortunately had a massive pub lunch after. It was delicious (roast lamb, veg & chips in a yorkshire pud) but i ate more than i should have and ended up feeling really bloated for the rest of the day. I was full after eating half of it but it seemed too much of a waste of money to leave it. I've got pretty good at leaving food at home when i can keep it for the next day.

Chicken with nandos sauce, veg & roast sweet potato chips for dinner tonight :)

  • Hi everyone,
I had a bad day yesterday as I ate almost half a family-sized bag of crisps and a lot of olives. I don´t usually eat crisps very often but I got home from work late and was ravenous so started snacking while making dinner. I felt bad and fat afterwards but what´s done is done so I just have to try to stop it happening again. Today I have meals organised and I´ll put an apple in my bag just in case I leave work late and can´t wait until dinnertime.

    Morning all :)

How are we planning on dealing with Shrove Tuesday? I have no idea how many cals are in a pancake - prob not very many but all the sugar I whack on them can't be good!

Alexnikov - there are lots of cals in pancakes!!!!! I'm having one right now :o

WI today - 136.3lbs, I am just getting so totally fed up. I keep seeing myself in the mirror and I don't like what I see. I'm bloated and feel yuk. Yet I can't seem to make the effort to do anything about it. I really want to lose weight but not enough, it seems, to actually do what it takes. I think I need a total change of attitude. I'm so miserable right now!!!! (sorry for the rant)

Edit: I ate quite a lot of chocolate over the weekend and I didn't like how it made me feel afterwards! I felt tired, lethargic, uncomfortably full etc. Compare this to how good I feel after a big plate of sushi, a really tasty sandwich or a bowl of noodles and veg. I need to remember the horrible feeling and use it to stop me eating such crap.

Lent starts tomorrow and I will be giving up all cakes, sweets, biscuits, chocolate and crisps for the next 7 weeks (hopefully forever!) - and I will need your support. Anyone else 'doing' Lent? Let's have a big group hug xoxoxoxo

    I'm not having any.

An alternative, though, and a good one is to have them with a savoury filling. Anything that could go in cannaloni can go in a stuffed pancake. So a lean mince filoing, as if for bolognese. When not dieting I love spanach and ricotta but one can do a reasonable substitute with yogurt. So, cook spinach, drain of extra fluid in a colander with weighted plate on it, then mix with a little yogurt and nutmeg, roll into creppes, fold over either end, put in an oven proof dish, cover with a tomato sauce (for me this is carrot, onion, celery, lots of fresh toms, but could be a store cupboard tom sauce) and a litttle string cheese..imo th better diet option is to have a little strong cheese, not more lower fat cheese...so for a family 2 oz of parmesn or really strong cheddare, and cook till heated through and then gobble up. I think I actually prefer savoury pancakes. My sweet option would be sweet chestnut though: nothing waistling friendly about that.

Tara, how tall are you, what size? is it possible that you weight is ctually not so bad as you think and where you should naturally be...my maths is rubbish, but I think that makes you about 9.5 stone? I was about size ten at that weight and when I was lighter I looked less good, and that would be a great region of weight for me now....but didn't know it at the time:o.

I feel like I've been doing lent pretty continuously for a long time! LOL. I'm still toying over what to give up this lent. I was thinking crushing out any last processed foods, but TBH, I find them a diet aid sometimes: the counted calories already on the box. (even though I don't find them satisfying or good for me) and I'm also toying with red meat...but a bit worried about iron...I can simply tke an iron supplement every day though.

I can't be faffed with Lent personally. IMO (and I hope I'm not offending anyone by saying this), unless you're actively religious, why do it? The amount of people I work with who do it for about 4 days, then fall off the wagon and moan about it for the rest of Lent, is really quite high! And I'm trying to train myself to eat healthily and properly and not deprive myself of anything, so banning certain types of food doesn't really fit in with that.

I am very much wishing I could pick which areas of my body I lose weight from. It doesn't appear to be going from my waist so even though all the legs of my trousers are baggy, I can't go down a size because the new ones aren't likely to fasten up :(

No offense taken! I am not religiously active, but was bought up in the catholic tradition (which I respect if do not believe myself, I love the traditions and am undeniably shaped by them) and think periods of abstinence are quite good for one. I usually abstain from alcohol from new year till end of march, but had some wine in Paris, (I'm good but not that good!) We cover our bases, we do a lot of the pagan and Jewish festivals too....

but I agree with you, sustained healthy eating is a great aim, and a healthy one.

Trousers are hard even for slim girls Alix. I always find them hard, big on legs and waist, tighter on hips. I don't havef freakishly broad hips and carry little proportionally extra on my stomach, though I am curvy, but I have a big bum and that takes up some trouser room. :o
