Roxie having worked for the Co Op some years ago, I would recommend sending a letter to both the manager and head office (maybe an address on your receipt), telling them that although you understand their precautions, you feel their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Ask if they do value your custom or would they prefer that you took it elsewhere!

It will make them aware of the lack of customer service within the store, and they may send you some incentive to encourage you back!
With regards to the PND I think it would be a good idea to try medication...it may just help you overcome this difficult period until you feel stronger.
    Sending you a hug:)

Also - re their bags you have to ask for them and they hand them over very begrudgingly - like they have some kind of targets not to give them out or something! You just cant win. It's a horrible, unfriendly place anyway with really poor customer service but they have the monopoly on the area which is unfortunate. I really wanted to say I'd never darken their door again but knew i'd probably be slinking in next week to buy milk and bread lol!

Hi found the above amusing because (I am embarrassed to say) supermarkets DO actually have such targets, its down to a government incentive to reduce the use of plastic bags; not biodegradable etc... why am i even trying to explain it
Its ridiculous (and i work for one)

At least other supermarkets offer them though! Dont just sling your shopping though and then look at you like you've offended them if you dare to ask for a bag! It's so wasteful me getting bags to put things in my buggy basket and i really dont need them- but i feel i have to now.
And surely a security guard has to have a motive to stop someone - such as actually seeing them steal something or at least behave suspiciously in store?

I did really feel forced with the meds. I argued with her for about 15 minutes - repeatedly saying that I didnt want to but she just wouldnt take no for an answer.
Its just been one of those weeks - roll on friday!

If you feel that strongly about not taking them then get a second opinion :)

Where does the time go?
  • Well I have to agree I would think they would need a reason to question someone. If it happens again ( I hope it doesn't) ask that very question, For example say "yes of course you can see my reciept, may I ask why though?"
you put the guard on the spot see how he likes it? Hold your head up high you've done nothing wrong, make him the embarassed one! :)

I'm 28. It's co-op - the sainsburies is much nicer but quite far for me to walk unfortunately. It wasnt so much an offer - just that I had to be somewhere and didnt have time to be going out of my way elsewhere.
    Patchwork cat - that's funny!

I worked for the co-op for 8 years and just knew you were talking about them!

not excusing the staff for the way they treated you or spoken to you but the licensing law thing gets drummed into them so hard its difficult to think straight after a while, we had to get people to press a button to say they were old enough to buy age related items... im not kidding i had to get an 80 year old woman to push the button so she could buy a potato peeler (SO embarrassing)

somebody said it would be easy to spot an 18 year old, boys... maybe, girls however its very hard and my most hated part of the job.

People will stare, especailly if they are queuing... they have nothing else to do, try not to let it bother you,
all the co-ops i know hire the worst little hitler security.. i think they have a contract with whoever is the cheapest! lol
If you want to complain i would write to head office, if you kick up a stink in a small store all the staff will know about it and then you really might get stared at! :)

I hated every minute working for that company! and since the shiny new tesco express opened in my tiny town i havent been in the co op once! hurrah!

I used to get blatantly followed around M & S when I was a young single mum to two kids. Everytime! I went up to the security guard and asked him why as never had I stolen anything. He was totally gobsmacked. It never happened again. Tackle it. However I also know that when I feel low I also feel that everyone is out to get me. This might be how you feeling too. xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Roxie our supermarket is obviously using old signs as I have just found an item that says think 21 is now think 25!, but I saw them not very long ago! Obviously we live too far in the sticks - everything takes a good couple of years to get up here from the South! including the weather!

You would think that the little stores would be more friendly wouldn't you, but our worse was Somerfield - it has just closed down, but the attitude of both staff and customers in there was awful, it really wasn't a pleasant buying experience.

If you are 28 feel very proud! Her comments were unpleasant, but hey you look under 21 or 25 or whatever, 10 years younger with no TV crew, congrats! They are obviously not that bright too is they know you have a 7 year old as it would be nigh on biologically impossible (well it would have been for me!)to be under 18 and have a 7 year old. I just say oh you 80 under my breath. ( referring to the average IQ being 100, and 1 in 10 people having an IQ of 80 or lower)

I also just KNEW it was a co-op , ours is exactly the same I got ID'd everytime i tried to buy alcohol. I refuse to go in there now, they've lost my custom.
  • our co-op is crap too, ignorant workers who look down their noses at you rarely smile I avoid it as much as I can
RE the ID I worked in m&s and the policies were drummed into you on training your told it is your responsibilty to look at someone and decide wether or not they look under 25. The local police can do tests and if they send in someone under age and you serve them then its the assistant who can be fined, dismissed or even face jail.
The security guard sounds like an !!!! or maybe he fancies you and is trying to attract your attention :) think that way and take them as compliments
    good luck xx
