Sick of my local supermarket! Grrrr!

But the supervisor knew or a fact that i wasnt underage as we have children in the same class and I would have had to have him when i was 10 yrs old in order to be underage. Plus the wine was partly for her as well -it just happened as I needed to get some other bits and bobs. The rules just seem petty and dont factor in common sense - what underage drinkers buy single bottles of red wine anyway? But anyway = you are all right, i shouldnt be letting it bother me so much so am just letting it go -whatever - it happened.
If my online shopping person questioned me though that would just be the icing on the cake! I own the house, I have 3 children in the house, I've been online shopping for years - how could they seriously think I would be under 18? It just defies logic and reason to me.MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

I did really feel forced with the meds. I argued with her for about 15 minutes - repeatedly saying that I didnt want to but she just wouldnt take no for an answer.

If it is the same security bloke everytime maybe some kind of suggestive remark might put him off "You want to search me again? I think you like me, big man. Bet you pick out all the pretty ladies for a quick rummage!"
OK so you'd probably not have the nerve, but just thinking it to yourself might allay the annoyance!
As for the challenge 90 stuff - at some point supermarkets are going to realise that messing around increasing proportions of their customer base just because they can't manage to stop getting caught by the licencing enforcement people is just losing them custom, and they'll have to come up with a better solution. Until then we all just have to grin weakly at them and walk away - there's plenty of threads on here from people who have had the same nonsense, you can't argue with it, its real "policy says no" stuff so no point stressing it. You can try and rationalise that they should know you, they let you last week etc, but that is just a recipe for personal stress. Leave it and take your business to the local offy or even pub, who might be a bit more expensive (or may not!) but will definitely be more appreciative of your custom!
(As an aside I've often wondered what they would do if having been refused you picked up the bottle and "accidentally" dropped it - they can't charge you for it, because that could be argued as selling it to you (the law doesn't say the alcohol purchased has to be in a drinkable form!) - probably best not to try this one either!)Adventure before Dementia!0 -
The milk incident I can understand - I wouldn't expect a security guard to know what sort of baby milk was stocked in a store tbh.
But the wine incident just sounds very petty. Fair enough they have to ask for ID, but it should be done politely, and the purchaser shouldn't be made to feel like a potential alkie!!
I would write to the manager and complain that you have been treated condescendingly (no need for snootiness over trying to buy ONE BOTTLE of wine) and outline the problem, perhaps suggesting that the cashier is given some training in customer relations;)
But hold your head up, and next time you shop, put your stuff in your own eco bag - walk right up to the security guard, wave your receipt at him and say 'Would you like to check it? You do every other time'
Don't let them get you down

There are several different issues in this. Firstly, I guess you'll have to laugh and be flattered that they still think you're too young to drink. However, I do feel you should be rightly angry by being spoken to in a discourteous manner by the serving staff. I think you should immediately contact the store's manager and inform him that if there were any alternative to shopping in his store, you would take it.
Can we know which supermarket this is - it actually sounds a bit like my local Sainsbury's (I know it's not, as I'm in London) but I bet it's not Waitrose, who have the most polite staff anywhere I know.0 -
I'd say if its got to the point of upsetting you to the point of tears (irrespective of what kind of week you're having) send a letter to the manager, explain you appreciate about licensing laws etc but its the manner by which its done. Like another poster said, if they are not aware, they cant make any changes.
And then I would honestly say, shop somewhere else....... no supermarket offer is worth your tears....
P.S Im forever id-ed for drink, to the point that I actually just hand my id over before they ask, and am 25 but respect that I look about 12, but thats a whole other issueWealth is not measured by currency0 -
It may be that they have had a report of a shoplifter that fits your description, or have they got a new security guard who is a bit officious. As for the bottle of wine, you should feel proud, but don't let them put you down, we all enjoy the occasional bottle of wine with a meal buying one doesn't make you an alchy!
I would ring up and speak to the manager, tell them what has happened and how humiliated you were, how the assistants attitude when you were buying wine was condescending - how old are you? If over 25 I would drop that in, if you are under 25 and look young, as most supermarkets have an over 21 policy, perhaps you should carry some ID.
I answered the door in my first house to a door to door saleswoman to be asked if my mum was in! I laughed at her.
Just an aside to the poster that said it was 'think 30' for buying booze, around here it is 'think 21' for buying alcohol and 'think 30' is think to drive at 30 mph!,0 -
I'm 28. It's co-op - the sainsburies is much nicer but quite far for me to walk unfortunately. It wasnt so much an offer - just that I had to be somewhere and didnt have time to be going out of my way elsewhere.

The policy there is 25 and they said it is government policy not their policy - that it has been changed from 21 for a couple of years??MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j
