  • I spoke to Barclays just about my career development loan! Apparently because i didnt notify them my course has gone on longer than the end date that advent gave them, that they cannot do anything. What Bull S**t is tht seriously!!
  • Hi all what a day!!!
I am in the same situation as most of you are MCSE and 1 year down the line and no certs in sight :(
I have been doing a bit of digging into this situation and it turns out that if you had a loan with Clydesdale bank aka Barclays partner finance then you should be covered by the consumer credit act 1974. It says that the loan company are equally liable and if the company providing goods seizes to exist then you may sue the lender.
    Hope that helps.
  • I've been a student for 2 years (MCSE) and reached my XP cert, I got my code to book my exam for the Server 2003 (70-290) on the 25th. Looks like I've gotta make this one count. I myself paid my course in full and would be interested in wether or not I will be receiving some sort of compensation. Probably not.
  • RICH10 ..... who advised you that the loan company will refund payments and terminate the rest of the loan?
  • Hello again people......I have been doing a lot of digging here and to be honest I'm flapping like a pigeon on amphet. It seems those of you who have been paying for the course with Clydesdale/Barclays Partner Finance have taken the 'buy now pay next year' option and having read my terms the agreement is regulated by the Consumer Credit Act 1974. Please have a look at this document I found on the Office of Fair Trading website (you need Adobe reader to view it) http: //www. oft.gov.uk/ shared_oft/ reports/ consumer_ credit/oft303.pdf

Please take out the spaces on that link. I'm a new user and not allowed to post links on here apparently. Just paste it into browser and cut spaces.
  • I just recieved this email to:

It is with the very greatest regret that I have to write to you to tell you that having tried our very best we have been unable to secure ongoing funding for the company and accordingly as matters currently stand we are unable to continue to provide your training.

Arrangements are being made for an insolvency practitioner to be appointed and I am sure you will be hearing from him. No doubt you will want to discuss the position with him or an adviser.

I am totally lost for words and as for the money....what now?? I paid in full and borrowed the money off family. I was doing the full mcse course and didn't even do my A+ exam yet.

There must be something we can all get together and do?

I am going to have a word with citezens advice and will keep you guys updated on what we may be able to do. Theirs no way we should stay quiet about this it's an obscene amount of money.

    Will keep you guys posted.

thats pretty much what they said to me...
i signed up in 2006 and havent passed an exam... i said id spoken to advent and they said i could study beyond 3 years...
"speak to The Learning and Skills Council (LSC)" is what i was told

from direct.gov.uk..... (on career dev loans)

If you don’t complete your course

Even if you don’t complete your course, you’ll still be responsible for paying back the loan. This applies whatever the reason you don’t finish – even if it’s not your decision (for example, because the course provider goes out of business).
So it’s important to make sure the course is right for you – and to check out the course provider.
  • I dont havt that in the terms and conditions of mine so they cant have me for that. Im going to seek legal advice tomorrow because a development loan is a credit agreement which means its the same as using a credit card and therefore insured for things like this

I'm not sure about that Stevo... I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's only credit cards that are covered (provided it meets certain stipulations etc)
If not then I would be expecting Barclays to be sending some people round to see the man in charge who's hoofed it with the cash... ;)

Has anyone thought of contacting the BBC watchdog? Is it even on TV still these days?

Hope somehow this works out for everyone and doesn't turn into another Farepak disaster :(
