my boyfriend joined access to trades a few months ago and through them he has to pay off a loan to barclays..obviously now access2trades have gone bust! rang barclays and they have currently froze his monthly instalments till they come to a decision?! any one know if he can actually get out of this loan? barclays have said they are currently looking for another training provider..but doubt they will..PLEASE HELP!!!
  • I am in a similar position
I got a letter through my door a few month ago to tell me about advent and when i rang barclays i asked to see if i could just cancel it but they said no basically and that i had to carry on and that they would find a suitable replacement
Early into the course i asked advent if i could differ (prob spelt wrong) basically put on hold because i was having financial difficulties as i had to start paying for my car and its insurance on top of rent, and food and general stuff i pay for inc bills. So i rang advent and they told me i had 2 contact barclays, so i did and he (random scottish guy, didnt get his name) said they (advent) had to contact the barclays and things would go from there. but that never worked out.
I really wanna get out of all this
I dont actually know if i was given a contract when i signed one
so i cant dig it out
If i do it should be with my stuff in storage because im currently in the process of moving house
Can anyone help me out please??????
    would be v much appreciated

    I wish I could wave a magic Wand….

You had better search for your contract that you of signed.

See if Barclays could send you a copy of the one that you signed it might be a possibility it will have the T and C's that you agreed with.

PLEASE READ PREVIOUS THREADS.. as I have said in previous response you may be in a similar situation as most of us,

but you may need to keep your side of the contract if you don't then you'll be breach.
Contact (make an appointment) with your local Citizen advice Bureau too, but they may want to see your contract as they want to know how they can best help you exactly...
You best to locate you contract.. I reread mine several times and if I didn't pay my fees before the 12 months were up they were going to slap me double digit interest so instead of paying £5,000+ by the end of Feb I would now be paying £11,000plus instead so you can see...why I paid up!!!
I didn't want to but I had to make sure I kept my side of the bargain/contract, as far I can see they are in breach with the contract as they haven't kept me in the loop and no training of any kind since December although the administrators came in Feb...and that’s at least 3 months no training...in my book.

If you write letters send them recorded delivery and keep your copies and keep everything Barclays send you.... file them.
If you call anyone take their name, but please be polite its not the person down the phone fault that advent went bust....they only get paid to answer the phone and get told what to say to us.
If you having debt problems now best speak to CAB and hopefully they can help you but you should have all your paperwork to hand as it helps them to work through the issues and help you with your specific budget management.

    Hope this help…

I hate to say this but there already are plenty of online resources out there for people to do all this by themselves. There are plenty of sites for people to discuss certification & training, there are plenty of sites where IT professionals discuss things and support one another and there are plenty of sites out there talking about IT jobs.

I'm not sure another site is really going to help anything, unless you can offer something which isn't already being done, or you can offer much better facilities than those already on offer..

Being opinionated and rather blunt is handy and rather refreshing.

Thanks for your opinion. I am aware that there are lots of other discussion forums on the subject. And you are right that one more is really going to help anyone. I was thinking more of a crowd sourcing venture where home learners within a certain locality could pool their resources. When a certain amount of students are comfortable with the first module of the CompTIA, for example, they could put their cash together, hire a hall, hire an IT Pro for the day and get on with the practical. A kind of only paying for what you need, when you need it. I understand that this sort of organisation is a lot of hard work but if there was a place on the web to kickstart this process I feel that it could be beneficial and quite self empowering to a lot potential home learners. Its just an idea.
    Regards.
  • :( I found this link on an other site, this may help some people, but not others.

Quick update on these idiots at barclays, just been spking to one their so cld managers Scott on 0844 811 9000, didnt have clue to be fair but kept repeating himeself saying that I wont get my money back and that they are currently in talks with a new provider. To this I asked the question that we are all entitled to know, who is the new course provider gunna be? He couldnt tell me as didnt know but he knows a man who does Mr Paul Noble Risk Mangement MD at Barclays. Of course he doesnt take calls and the letter ive asked for him will never arrive as he wont get he message, but still I asked for it!! Anyways I have asked more than once now for the name of the so cld company that they are almost signing with to take over the course but they refuse to give out this information, information of which I believe we are all entitled to considering we choose the course providers in the first place. So I think we all need to demand this information from barclays asap and then have the right as a consumer to chq wether this company is good enough for us to go with, again as a consumer we should get to choose. Altho my stance is still the same and that is I just want a full refund!! Not sure if any of this helps you out there but needed to write this stuff down!!
  • Hi Guys,

first post here also in the same boat with regards to advent, i was a day away from requesting a code to book the MS 70-290 exam, so pretty p'ed (can't believe P iS se d is classed as sensitive) off to be fair. I've spoken to someone at the administrators today and the response was the same as the rest of you. however just so you all know i did get told that at the moment the purchase is going through all kinds of red tape and is being bounced back and forth. anyone else got anything else?

with regards to people looking at for exam materials let me know and i'll look at setting something up for us to at least not be stopped dead by this.

Ok THAT is actually a pretty decent idea if I may say so. I had envisaged "Server Fault, now with exam questions" but what you're talking about there may have legs.

  • I'm mighty !!!!ed off. I called Barclays before my repayments were about to be taken from my account and a chap there told me they were going to put a stop to my direct debits till they were able to finalise the new training provider details. This morning, i get a call from them telling me that I have missed my first installment and I've now incurred charges! I explained that I'd spoken to chappy last week and he said that they have no record of that call and i shall still have to pay charges and start making monthly payments.
I'm so angry right now i could scream!
