Advent Training Gone bust... what now??

  • Hi guys and gals, I really need some help, advice...anything, I really don't know where to turn.
I signed up for my MCSE way back in 2006 with Advent and took out a Career Development Loan which paid the course fees off in full.

Advent kindly informed Barclays that I would have finished the course by 2008 so thats when my loan repayments began.
Needless to say, due to moving house, getting a new job and very poor support from Advent...I haven't completed the course. I didn't think it was important to let Barclays know as I knew the loan would have to be paid back at some point anyway.

Ok, so when I heard that Advent had gone bust, I called Barclays.
I explained all of the above and they informed me that because I should have completed the course, I had to continue paying for it.
I wrote to Barclays to put my complaint in writing and they didn't respond.

I submitted a Proof of Debt form to PKF, they didn't respond.
I submitted my case to the Financial Ombudsman, who have now confirmed that because it wasn't a Finance agreement, I was not covered under Section 75. However they will make Barclays aware of my complaint but not to hold my breath.

I called Consumer Direct and expained everything, and they are now submitting my case to my local Trading Standards.
This is good isn't it? However won't they go after Advent?

I called Computeach and they confirmed that as I have already paid in full for my course they will not provide alternative training.
Following this I called PKF. They said I should get my money back but being realistic they said I won't as there is no money left!

I have just writen to Watchdog and I was going to contact my local MP but because of the elections I can't find her contact details.

I think I have done everything I can. Can anyone suggest anything else? Surely there must be something, some law, something to cover me somewhere?
Any suggestions welcome! Martin pleeeeeease help me!
I work, I pay debts, I work some more and then pay more debts...give me a break! :money:

    Hi,All Advent Students,
This is a genuine offer of Legal Representation, in case anyone is suspicious.
I have taken it from CAG( although CAG is not involved in the arrangements) as my son was an Advent IT student and has been on there.
If you can copy The above Notice and link it anywhere you know Advent/Barclays Partner Finance is being discussed then all Advent students should be informed and there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The Notice has been posted on Facebook as well but if you guys know anywhere else that would be a great help to get the message across. You can win this you have a strong case and you have now excellent representation that will cost you all nothing.
The more names the more power to fight back and stop these
Training companies and their funders ripping people off.
Use the email above of Fuzzbutt
    Thank You :)

    Thanks for the post.

    Hi Wasabi,
My son is the ex Advent student was due to start paying beginning of March so the nearer it came to that after Advent collapsed the more anxious we became. He had the 1 year interest free so was due to pay the lump. needless to say we didn't pay it( not receiving a service )but had got the account on hold so we have been receiving demands for payment even though it's on hold BPF are totally in the wrong by doing this.
Along side this we receive letters from their complaints dept apologising for not being able to resolve the complaint latest being this morning saying they hope to resolve it by 23rd April. so seems they don't have a solution to offer.

I would suggest you contact Fuzzbutt at Fuzzbutt1962@hotmail.com and get included in the action being taken. Report your complaint to the FOS and consumer direct.
I won't be paying for something that is not being received I had advice from Trading Standards that if the new Provider is unsuitable (which it is )then we have a right to refuse due to them not being like for like.
If we didn't have a cause of action then the Lawyers would not be representing us.
    Hope this helps Wasabi

    Hi Macca
That's an interesting read I copied the link for you :)
  • I've been trying to call them email them and this is not the way to do business there must be a organisation that is their governing body to get on to
  • Hi guys ok,Advent has been baught out by computeach, see website, which i have spoke to,they told me they would enroll me with computeach to finished off the advent training however, they sent an email saying that the contracted term time had run out, like many of your selfs i was told you could study at your own pace, therefore no term time!

so,after being hit with that 1 i told the customer care team at computeach about the contract and that it stated that at any time you could have a full refund if you were not satisfied with the course or traing, even said you could sue advent and clyesdale finace to that end,but computeach wont have any of it,i did tell em that they baught Advent out there fore must hounor the contracts to there fullest, still nothing.

They did tell me to send a copy of the contract over to them, they should all ready have this as the baught advent??which i will do.

I will all so see the cab team-citezens advice beraue or my local councils trading standars team about what steps i can take, any one in the same situation as me i suggest you do the same asap!

i disagree with computeach infact id even say what they are doing is a form of fraud.I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED ON WHAT HAPPENS AND IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT CAN HELP ANY ONE OUT OF THIS MESS!!

    Hi Frank
I am a bit concerned they want you to give them a copy of your contract I would suggest you find out first if that's wise. Something not right about that. To keep you right.
If they bought Advent then your contract should be in there in their system. Better check with CAB for right way to deal with this.
  • I took out a CDL with Barclays around 3 and a bit years ago and didnt have to pay the loan back for 2 years. I am now paying it back in monthly installments and am half way through my course that was with Advent. I am now told my course has expired and that if I want to continue my training I will have to pay Computeach AGAIN!!! When i took on the Advent contract I asked them whther there was a limit to the time I had as this was one of my concerns and they said I could take a s long as i want. I feel if Computeach bought the business over they should honour the same Advent Student contracts. Its sounds like you are in the same boat as me Frank!

I am worried ill lose everything and will have to pay with no more training being provided. I am thinking about cancelling my direct debit with Barclays as I think they are partly lioable to find alternate training arnt they?
