  • I sent CAB an email about the advent training situation and this is what they said.
    Dear Mr Martin,

    Thank you for your enquiry.

As Barclays Finance provided the credit for your computer course they have equal liability if the service you have paid for i.e. the course, is not being provided.

As they are trying to remedy this by trying to get another company to take over the training you do not have the right to cancel the contract.

It would not be advisable to withhold payments at this time as it could affect your credit rating.

If Barclays fail to get another company to take on the training within a reasonable time period e.g. the next month then you could contact them and request that the agreement is cancelled on the grounds that there has been an unacceptable delay in providing the service.

It would also be advisable to contact Barclays on a regular basis in the meantime to ask for updates so they are aware that you are unhappy with the current situation
  • Hi everyone.
Here's the situation I'm in. I initially applied for Advents one years interest free loan for £4800 or so with Clydesdale Finance(Now Barclays) to fund my course but just before the year was up, I paid the entire amount to Clydesdale with my credit card to avoid the horrendous interest. I haven't done much of the course because of other commitments but this is besides the point and now, as everyone else, have no course to do anyway.
Have I got any protection as although I didn't pay Advent directly with my credit card, rather the finance company, surely something should be covered through the consumer credit agreement as the payment was made on credit card.
I look forward to any advise anyone can give me.
  • If I have took out a CDL with Barclays and in their eyes "the course has ended" but I dispute this. Should I continue paying the CDL?
Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away
  • Called up barclays on saturday. I had originally taken a loan with barclays to pay for my course but paid it off before my repaymrnts started. The adviser told me that because i had done it through barclays then i was covered and now they are trying to organise another training provider for me. How long this will take nobody knows ..........

Anyone who is affected by this is advised to check the websites for both Advent Computer Training and Access2 Trade Careers as an administrator has now been appointed and is attempting to sell the businesses. There are help lines set up by the adminstrators, who are a large firm of corporate accountants.

Phone the helpline number on the relevant website and ask the administrators.
