Great idea
I took 2 years off from work when we had dd so our savings are now just about zilch but it was wonderful having that time with her.
Would like to get some cash in the bank for a rainy day or a holiday plus pay off some debt. But in all honesty it would just be nice to have 10k sitting in the bank !Sealed Pot Challenge Member 1273VSP 2011 Member 92 - 723.070 -

I have sooo many ideas for it it's unreal I just don't have the money or the confidence to just do it. I think it's going to have to be a slow burner of an idea but it will feel so much better when i am all successful rather than having all the risks borrowing to do it.

I am doing this to make a living. I have found it really hard to get a permanent job since finishing uni last summer. Most of my jobs have been in call centres which I hate but they are the only jobs I can get because I have experience. After my last temp job finished I had a bit of a moan to my boyfriend about hating working for other people and wished I could work from home. He said "well why don't you then" Fatal mistake I then decided I wanted my own ebay shop selling goth clothing and accessories. At the moment I am more like Del Boy, buying and selling what ever I see that I think I can profit from! I have made little compared to everyone else, some have made £500!!! Wish I could make that! I could get myself off JSA (they know about my self employment I have to declare my profit each fortnight but as all my profit gets reinvested in stock it has not affected my claim).0

Same here but I am doing a course painting and drawing now and its great, very relaxing mixing with a much older group manywhich are pretty accomplished for a 'beginners' course and I am learning alot, reproducing old masters and and all sorts. I am short sighted, don't think that matters as long as your glasses work (LOL) and was supposidly colour blind (diagnosed as a kid) but found out few years back actually I am not, just cant distinguish between shades or do those silly dot books they use as the test, I don't paint my sky green and grass blue anyway. See if any courses in your local area and get on one, sometimes free and can often get pt course or evening class!0 -

Just a quick note....
firstly, good luck to everyone - hope you all do well and reach the target!
secondly, I'm hoping everyone might thank Bing0 for starting the thread - if it weren't for him then a lot of you wouldn't have "met" and I am sure would not have had the motivation to even begin a challenge like this.

Can sympathise with you hun, I left Uni (98) and I couldnt get a job either, problem being not much experience but when I was going for 'normal' jobs in shops and all they were saying I was overqualified! I had to beg to get a job at ASDA and that is no lie! Have not really found my calling since, worked in retail, admin, civil service, library public and uni but I also find it hard to work for people and I get itchy feet quite quickly. I dabble in ebay and do bootsales and things like that and as my partner works ft and we have 2 young kids working ft is not a priority at mo though the money would be nice so I have the 'luxury' of being able to have a crack at this or that see what I can trun hand too...my brother reckons I am that woman off Last of Summer Wine, the old girl who sells junk and my mum is Del Boy!!! lol. I think often if you are type of person who wants to do your own thing then working for other people with strict co rules can be hard bit like trying to put a round peg in a square hole, unless you get in somewhere where your ideas are welcomed and you have enough freedom to do your own thing. Being on JSA you can prob do voluntary work too or be eligable for different shortt courses etc, usually short courses most areas where you can learn things like jewellery making, card making etc, things that could possibly turn into businesses if you find you have a talent for them. The goth clothing sounds like a bit of a niche market which is good....I remember there being a second hand vintage clothes shop local to me in a student town, used to do well selling vintage stuff to the students0
