Right need to go shower, put slow cooker on and think about what else I am doing today. Should visit my dad too....I need fingers crossed that my dad can sign his signature close enough for the bank to accept it so I can withdraw money from his account to pay his rehab some money for his meals they are hassling me for. I have no cash I can access. He had a stroke was in hospital where they provided his meals, they decided that he should be in a rehab centre (great) but no-one said this would involve me/someone having to pay for his meals (he can't cook for himself) and also having to pay for shopping so they can teach him to make drinks and food again. Why if meals are free in hospital, and he is now in rehab because he is still in need of medical care and not fit to go home, are his meals not free now? Really think it is one of the things which should have been discussed not just happened and then I am handed a bill...enough to think about without having to have extra money worries, and that isn't even mentioning what a nightmare his insurance company are being (hew had a car accident when he had his stroke!) ARRRRG! Sorry, need to vent!

Anyway, enough of that lets all have a good weekend :j and of course my dads signature will be fine (otherwise will have to get power of attorny and that involves a solictitor and , oh yes, more costs!!!

God nix, you've got the weight of the world on your shoulders! That's one of those dreadful situation that everyone hopes they never find themselves in. It's awful enough without you having the extra financial worry. I don't suppose there are any benefits that your dad would be entitled to? It's not an area I know much about other than it seems to be stacked in favour of those that know the system rather than those that are entitled. And dealing with official bodies like banks and insurance companies is ultra frustrating - I know how incompetent a lot of companies are these days so please please come on here and vent as often as you need. There's a huge pool of experience so someone may be albe to point you in a better direction than I can. I can, however, send a group hug from us all :)

nixinixi, when my sis got PoA for my mum I don't think she needed a solicitor. IIRC (and it was a few years ago) I think she just needed a doctors certificate to say that a PoA was appropriate in her case and sent the application off direct. Might be worth asking your dad's doctor - could save a few bob.

ETA that was enduring power of attorney, as she wasn't going to get any better.

Thank you Susie. Usually not to bad, but I am going to go and see him today and I know they will be asking me for money... thank you.

Thank you 2cats. Hadn't heard of that one, I will look into it. Hopefully my dad will improve but with a stroke you never really know. He is showing signs of improvement but it is still early days.

I just added that as I figured with EPoA (which is basically forever) then if any version was going to need a solicitor it would be that one iykwim. I know they have changed the PoA rules, but MIL had a stroke a while back and I think SIL got PoA at least for a while - don't think they used a solicitor either IIRC.

  • hey hope everyone is well. I've not had chance to log on over the last few days as I've been so busy at work and I had a night out last night :j it was my first night out in such a long time and I'm so tired today but it was so worth it, had such a good giggle !

Haven't really had that much of a productive week this week, I only managed to write one dooyoo review on the OPI Alice in Wonderland nail polish I treated myself to but I'm just catching up on ebay with all the questions I need to answer,, I have 9 items listed and only 1 of them doesn't have a bid against it so I'm rather happy about that.

I sold an old mobile phone this week so that's another small amount to add to the pot and my cashback from Bingon is due to be paid at the end of the month.

Hope to catch up with all the posts over the next few hours :) Hope everyone has had lots of success
