Amber, I love you. Seriously. I need to send you something to say thank you...I don't think we'd make it without you, I am evidently useless at everything Spain related!Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:0

I know it's late but anyone got any advice........
I sold something on ebay last Sunday and the person wanted it for Valentines Day. I knew this would be the case so I put in the description that I guaranteed delivery in time for V Day. I posted it on Monday and the Post Office guy (who knows I sell loads on ebay and kinda knows me a bit by now cos I'm in so bloomin much!) advised against next day delivery as it was only Monday and First Class would be fine. Well, I took his advice and sent it first class and the guy's not received it. I told him it was sent recorded delivery (which I thought it had, but actually I'm not sure now-not at home to check the receipt) and he keeps emailing asking me to check if one of his neighbours signed as everyone in his flat is out during the day!
Not sure what to do next - obviously he needs to get it tomorrow. Is it unreasonable to ask him to check with his neighbours? Should I give him a full refund as I guaranteed delivery for Valentine's Day? Should I never listen to the Post Office guy again?
If I give him a full refund obviously I'll lose the money he paid me plus all the ebay and Paypal and postage charges. I can make a claim against the PO but have I still lost out? He'll get his money back from me, hopefully I'll get that money back from the PO but I've still lost the original goods which I paid for and can't resell - does this make sense?
Must email the guy back soon (his last message to me was 30 mins ago) but not sure what to say. Hope I've not rambled on too much but any advice?0 -
I'd ask him to check with his neighbours, and get back to you as soon as possible. He should do it in the morning, and then you get the time for tomorrows post to deliver it. If it doesn't arrive, you'll probably have to refund him, but make sure you speak to the post office and tell them that you were advised against sending it recorded.
It sounds like a terrible situation, is it an item that will be useful after V day?
(I think we've found the property we want. Cross your fingers for me!)Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:0 -
Thanks Saucy, yes it can be used after V Day and if I got it back I could easlily resell it but I think (fear) what's going to happen is I refund him, he receives it on Monday, keeps it and I lose out! It wasn't overly expensive, just annoying!
I'll get back to him now (can't work out if the poor boy's panicking or annoying - who sends messages at 0045!!?) and suggest he gets in touch with his neighbours in the morning. I live in a flat and sometimes there's no mail for 3 or 4 days if the postman can't get in - ultra annoying when you're trying to turn £100 into £10000!
Oh, definitely have everything crossed for you!!0 -
I can't believe I didn't find it. The new plan is to try and go to it for a week in Easter, to check the area and the apartment out, and then to go on the 1st July. Would like to go to Barcelona, too, and give Amber a big hug! So if I get even half way to £10,000, I'll do that
Maybe I could make Spanish notebooks? Lol.
I think you could agree with him that if it arrives after V day, he could refuse the parcel, and they'd return it to sender? Or he could keep it, and maybe you could refund part of his postage as compensation for late arrival, although it isn't your fault! It could be sat at his post office, we haven't had post in days, and I'm in central Birmingham right now.Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:0 -
Hi. Have been out to see friends tonight - separation anxiety from reading this thread, lol. Think I am getting a bit addicted.
Anyway, am going to read up the posts I have missed and then to bed.

I've just emailed to ask him to check with his neighbours in the morning and also check with his sorting office - if they couldn't deliver the parcel they may not have been able to deliver the 'couldn't deliver' card so it could be sitting there. Good thinking about refusing the parcel! I've asked him to get back to me in the morning so I'm temporarily uncrossing my fingers for you and crossing them for this instead. I'll be back crossing for you after his post has been delivered. Til then, most other people on this site have everything crossed for you anyway so you'll not notice I'm gone0 -
I know, I feel terrible that I seem to dominate the thread. It's like home...I really should shut up more. I'll make it one of next week's resolutions!
I'll cross my fingers that it comes tomorrow or his sorting office/neighbours has it. I'm hoping OH card comes tomorrow...the post is like that, though, so I won't be too bothered if it comes early next week.
Out of interest, what are you selling? I've never sold on Ebay, so I'm always interested in what people have put on and how it goes, lol. You don't have to say, of courseSignature down for maintenance :rotfl:0 -
Oh please don't shut up - the dribbling's what it's all about. I feel like I'm home too on this thread - no question is too stupid and I'm amazed at the wealth of knowledge among all of us, not to mention the willingness to share!
I travel quite a bit through work and try to pick up local bits and pieces that can't be bought in the UK to sell on ebay. I usually stick with things that I like so that if it doesn't sell I can keep it! This was/is a lovely toiletry set in a beautiful gift bag. I'd be happy to get it as a gift so hopefully it'll arrive in the morning, she'll love it and we'll all live happily ever after!0 -

Don't think that way, saucy, you are here for others when they need it.
A few years ago I did a whole lot of ebay.
I sold random stuff but found a few a few things when I was searching / researching that brought me massive profits. e.g. I bought a large solid silver goblet for £80 on a tuesday evening and sold it back on ebay for £150 on the next sunday - the original listing was not misspelled or anything, it just wasnt specific enough. The problem is that what is desirable on ebay changes week by week. Its a question of ongoing research to find what will sell well.
