    Hi - i'm after some advice please :) Today i was effectively offered a rather large promotion, going into an area with which i'm familiar and enjoy but meaning much more work and some additional stress. I've been quite lazy this year and have been focusing on enjoying my life rather than putting all my efforts into my work - as this has taken over my life until recently. The new post would mean a huge pay rise but would mean less time just enjoying life and chilling. It would also put me on a different level from my colleagues and i've been enjoying making new friends and having a better social life - this would no doubt be affected, especially as i was last through the door. I feel so, so chuffed to have this opportunity but don't know what to do?!! I've not felt particularly challenged in my current role, but the new role would definitely stretch me and at times put me well outside my comfort zone. It seems silly not to take it, as it would open up major opportunities and in the current climate, turning down extra money seems foolish...I know this is the only place where i can get impartial and sound advice... what do you think? Thank you x

    I can only speak from my own life experiences and especially over the course of the last year. I have learned over time that I need a challenge when it comes to work, but that I also need a good work life balance, at least a job where I can walk out the door at the end of the night and forget about it, if that makes sense. I have also come to learn and understand that no amount of money can buy true happiness, yes it is good, yes it lets you buy things, yes it lets you experience things but to me it is not always worth it. Peace of mind, my family, friends and my own sanity are also very important.

    I know this is probably not answering your thoughts but I suppose for me I would really evaluate the plus and minuses and then seriously go with my gut instinct, but I will never put myself second again. Life is too short and we only get one chance at it!

    I honestly dont think I am making any sense at all at the moment lol

    Been getting some accounts and projections and it looks like 09-10 turnover will be around the level of 07-08 - slightly higher maybe. So a definite reduction compared with 08-09, but that's the recession for ya! Up till then we'd seen steady year on year increases, but we are still here and alive and kicking! I am so aware that it could have been much much worse, so these figures actually seem ok to me. I know some of my staff were concerned for their future, and I know we aren't out of the woods yet, economy-wise, but they are all still in their jobs and even had a pay rise this year (albeit a small one). Feeling quite bullish, actually :)

    Have spoken today to a customer that lives near proposed venue change. She has swapped where she goes to avoid dirty skanky hall and was VERY positive about the proposed new place and wants to go there. Talked to her a bit about the parking situation, and have a potential reasonably close car park to check out. I want to get the mums to agree that the parking spaces nearest the hall are for mobility-impaired (e.g. mums who are heavily pregnant), or mums with more than one child to juggle, or possibly people who are running very late. Anyone running to schedule who is normally mobile and such should park further away and walk. Does that sound fair to everyone?

    I really want to be able to go back after half term and be able to start selling the benefits of the hall change and give notice to current place. Feeling quite up about it now. :)

    I was out feeding cats this afternoon. Not a moneyspinner, but something I love anyway.

    Saucy, I was twice your age before I finally found the courage to do what I'd always wanted to do, and move to Spain. Failure at 19??? Pah! Munchki, it must be so frustrating chasing all over the country for these interviews ... your determination deserves to pay off.

    It is very very frustrating, I sometimes wonder why I keep trying as I just seem to keep beating my head against the wall. I am so tired of hearing how talented and qualified I am in feedback, of course just after being told I did not get the job!! Something has to give and freaking soon!

    Thanks for all the fab advice everyone - definitely a lot of food for thought! x
    Munchki - it will come when you're least expecting it and then you'll no doubt be offered too many jobs and have lots of decisions to make :) You'll get there. One thing i did wonder is whether you should actually start applying for less jobs - i know that seems to go against all reason, but then you could ensure that everything is perfect for the ones that you do apply for. It must be difficult to give each one 100% when you're applying for several a day. Maybe be a bit more selective? Do keep trying, don't give in - you've got loads of skills and experience and the perfect job is out there for you! maybe spend some time doing some short courses/ qualifications in the meantime to show that you're still progressing. Something will give freaking soon - them giving the job to you! xx
    Just £10,852.28p to go...

    :D

    Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if...";
    And then do it.

    Em, I hear what you are saying and I spend on average 8ish hours a day and at least 6 days a week completely customising every single job I apply for. I am just starting to find it all very frustrating and really starting to doubt myself now. I am at a point now, where time is very much of the essence and I really dont know what to do outside of keep trying. Thank you so much for all your help, very very much appreciated. xx
