Have to agree with mambury et al, childminding is not what it used to be.

My friend has just started up her own childminding business, and although she is already a mother, a qualified Nursery Nurse, and has what I would consider a child proof house, the red tape has still been mind numbing.

Among the things she has had to do was to put up a high fence around her garden, install a complicated fire alarm system that cost over £200.00, re-do her kitchen, pay for herself and her partner to be police checked, produce endless policy documents and procedures. Re-do her first aid training and attend registration classes.

Not for the faint hearted, if it's not a career choice.
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
  • No wonder theres a lack of reasonable priced child care available
I know you want your children safe but that is overkill in my opinion

I wouldn't want to become a childminder now, too much to think about without even beginning to look after the children which is the most important part!

I have listed 5 things on Ebay this afternoon

Have accidentaly sorted the label dilemma-went onto 123-print to order some business cards...half way through checkout and they offered me some return address labels, uploaded my logo done a few tweaks and have got a nice patterned sticky label with everything on it 150 for under a tenner instead of the business cards.
    Jobs a good un :-)
Sorry cant participate in the childminding debate as I have no kids-I'm not safe to look after house plants without killing them!

well just had another call from another healthcare place. They must be mad! They want me to train with them for 4-6 weeks for free! I can then maybe get 20-25 hours a week at minimum wage once my crb come back after!!

    Its official, I give up

Also told me that I have to pay for half the crb check when I attend the interview and that they pay 16p a mile for driving from one client to the next but that I cant monitor my mileage that they decide how far it is regardless if it is right or not and that they tax that amount as well. Also stated that they gradually deduct uniform costs, well a small percentage of it. found out from someone who works there the only reason that she does is that she loves the work and it fits with her life howver she used to get about 20 a week for her mileage and now is lucky if she gets a fiver. all a bit mad and yes talk about taking the proverbial! I am supposed to go there tomorrow for an interview, dont think I shall be

    Has anyone heard from MMTWGR?
Have been mostly washing baby sick off clothes, floors, booster seats today! Seems to be one child constantly down with something atm.

After reading all the comments about forging on ahead and taking no notice of OH's whinges though I'm actually feeling loads more determined. Now I just need to shake off whatever it is I've picked up - feel like someone's been bashing my muscles with a brick!

Sorry about the interview Munchki, sending you positive wishes :)
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick @ss.... and I'm all out of bubblegum.
