Discussion thread about Tesco voucher acceptance

Good Afternoon, much discussion has taken place on this subject and no doubt will be discussed again in the future. Not sure where to post this so created a new thread.

I use vouchers regularly but last week experienced a Supervisor who was rude and refused to accept the 3 vouchers I gave the cashier. She told me I had a cheek expecting money off when not purchasing the items and I did feel very embarassed by the whole incident.

Anyway, OH complained to Tesco HO and this is the reply we received:

"Thank you for your email. I was sorry to learn of the problems that you have encountered trying to use coupons in our xxxxxxxxxxx store.

Any coupons, which display the Tesco logo, are Tesco specific. We only
accept these if the products referred to on the coupons are purchased.
This is because we negotiate savings with our suppliers on the
condition that these actual products will be purchased.

With regard to coupons from brand name manufacturers, we are happy to
accept one, even if you have not purchased the product. The coupon must
be in date and Tesco must sell the item. If you present more than one
identical coupon, then you must purchase the same number of products.

This also applies to coupons printed from the Internet. These will only
be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager. I have forwarded a copy of your email to the store manager for their attention.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain our policy. Kind regards"

For one week I have avoided going there, discovered a lovely friendly much larger Tesco where I do not have the same problems. Anyway, today just popped into get a paper, using no vouchers and only spending 35p cash at the till. The Supervisor I had problems with was at the next checkout when she nudged her Tesco pal from CS and shouted over "Did you complain to Head Office" to which everyone looked around, staff, customers everyone. I just shrugged my shoulders, and left hastily.

I have emailed Tesco HQ now and advised them that their member of staff was out of line and I do not expect to be treated in such a manner, after all I am the customer.

The moral of this story if there is one  is just be careful, enjoy your savings do not bring undue attention to yourself and let's all be sensible about how many vouchers we use.

For me, it's not a huge deal I find the Tesco I shop in now is huge, has lots of different varied items and a much greater selection. I however, do not expect my local Tescos to treat me in this manner and I hope I receive a reasonable reply from them.

Remember - coupon usage is a bonus not an automatic right, don't expect to have X amount off your shopping as there will be times when you will get nothing. Tesco policy varies from store to store, is up to the Manager's discretion and dependent on who serves you sometimes.

Welshy x PS Oh no it looks like an essay now !

Thanks Broken hearted, OH said I should have said something to her but it was 7.15am, I was tired, it was raining outside and I was on the way to work so not totally alert at the time. I hope they give her a warning but Tesco CS had said my complaint had been sent to my local store, so if she is asking me then I can only assume my complaint was not cascaded down to the relevant people.

Sorry again to hear of your troubles welshy. I was refused vouchers even after spending £70.00 she could only take one at a push.
Unfortunately at that store there had been people just buying one pack of nappies £10.00, using £7.00 vouchers against them. Then going to cs with the nappies saying they were not needed/wrong and claiming a whole cash refund. ( friend works there told me all this )
This is shearly taking the pxxx and we have all been punished at HAMPTON PETERBOROUGH. Everyone be grateful for what you do get and don't take the pxxx like this or your store will follow suit.
I now only look at the newspaper thread for free meals at Yates, due for a cool freebie I would have thought!!!

Hi kronen  totally agree with your sentiments above.

Just had a phone call from Tesco CS - apologising and saying that they agree that her behaviour was totally unacceptable and it will be dealt with at my store. If it stops her behaving like this to other customers then I will be happy.

sorry to hear that the supervisor has a chip on her shoulder.....obviously they dont like complaints going to head office about their store.....
but you are right....it is a bonus...with the money off vouchers.....but at the moment... my .. supermarket will take any amount ...and that has come from a supervisor.....they seem to be more on their guard about the r & r's ....
its a catch 22 for me.....speaking on this subject... as i feel for the people that have problems in their stores....with grumpy sa... or manager's/ stores policy on voucher exceptance.....yet my store will gladly except a pile off me with out question or qibble......and i know my voucher usage will not affect the other stores... as we all say its up to the individual store what they accept......

the only thing ...i do not use other stores vouchers.... or internet copied vouchers..... i only use genuine manufacturers coupons....in flyers...mags....papers.....and ones sent out with freebie samples/requests etc......anything with another store written on it is not used...

but regardless of what is what with voucher exceptance.... the supervisor is obviously above her station....and if that was me... i would take it all the way.....to make sure her cards are marked about her attitude....and i would have the last laugh

    Blimey!
That supervisor sounds like a right grumpy old moo! I bet she wouldnt have been quite so bolshy if she'd have known you were going to contact head office AGAIN LOL. I hope she gets an ear bashing, but IME people like that rarely change.
I dont have a Tesco of a decent size near me anymore, but I only ever used a few coupons at the self scan aisle cos I'm a scardy pants!
Anyway, enjoy your new store Welshy and dont let the likes of grumpy moo ruin your day :)

the bad customer service at Tesco must be a spreading problem. A week or so ago I was refused £4 worth of coupons for items purchased against a £145 shop. The assitant manning the self scan thing came over told me that it was one coupon per transaction and accused me of defrauding the store and I was no better than a common thief. I was absolutely mortified and just picked up my baby and walked out leaving all the shopping behind. Upset me tremendously and I cried all the way home. I'm battling with postnatal depression atm and have been struggling to deal with busy places so even going to the shop was a big step forward. Obviously this experience has knocked my confidence no end.

Needless to say a letter was in the post the same afternoon to customer services and copied to the Chief Exec. No reply yet but they would have only got the letter monday so there is still time.

I'd have loved to see the look on their face as you walked out and they had to void £145 worth of stuff off. Even better the look on their managers face as they bexplained why.

For the first time today I came up against an assistant who would only take one voucher. If they have indeed changed their policy it will be back to shopping online whenever I can find a code.
