Interesting article. I've just got to this bit:
 Why would one in five babies need to be taken away from their mothers? I actually wrote in my birth plan that Alice would be accompanied at all times by either me or OH but I didn't think it was that common for babies to be taken elsewhere.
They made me leave LO when I had a shower. Will not let them do that next time.
They pushed formula on me, but luckily I was able to refuse. They didn't like that though.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -

I had J in 2003, it was around 3 o clock in the morning and he was crying, I was walking round and soothing him (had tried feeding and he had just been changed) A nurse/midwife came over to me and said 'Dont worry I'll take him' I told her that I was fine and could manage but she was trying to take him from me as I was saying this and I let her get hold of him she popped him in his cot and started to wheel him to reception area. I followed as most of the other mums were sleeping and I didnt want to disturb them.
Once off the ward I noticed there were about 7 babies all being cared for by the nurses. I asked if I could take J back with me as I felt uneasy without him there. She replied 'I was only trying to help you, you silly girl'. I took him back to my bed and had a little cry

Our hospital had a policy of not taking baby anywhere without a parent. I'm not sure if that would have changed if there was an emergency though, as if I was on my own, and something had happened, presumably they would have had to? (Wheeling me down the corridor after her might not always have helped very much... ) I had ot go into surgery for 4 hours afterwards - I don't know if they would have brought her in too if DH wasn't there to take care of her? It's the mums own ones and so far they look more like real food than the others. And Amber DEVOURS them!
Can I be all defensive and say that as a poor put-upon mother of 3 (4 including the one I'm married too) I barely have time to cook for us let alone cook, mash, squish and ok, it's the DEFROSTING that gets to me. A freezer full of stuff and I forget to bring it out.
But yeah, the jars work out cheap.
And then you pop tea lights into them for when you sit out the back with the neigbours
I ALWAYS forget to take stuff out the freezer! Only took our tea out at 12pm - will bung it in some warm water to defrost.
J's stuff gets nuked on Jet defrost then 15 secs on normal cookingA very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

What I like about this place is the mixture of experiences. Having Amber with me that first night was strange to me because the boys were whipped away (DS1 born at 9.33pm, taken to ward with me at midnight and taken away at 1am) (DS2 well, I was under GA then kept asleep for 3 days and when they took me down day 4 I really wasn't interested). I honestly didn't really know what to do with her and just kept feeding her all the time and cuddling her and didn't want to sleep incase it was a dream and she was really in SCBU. It actually felt normal when she was taken down.
Although, I do recommend that if your baby is taken away down, you stay where you are for an hour because you do not want to see your baby having wires and tubes put in. It was bad enough seeing other babies being 'settled in', I could not watch that happen to my own.
And just for your amusement, I just changed a sparkly, glittery pooy nappy! Christopher has been at the glitter and some sequins too!0 -
Feelie i love your new piccie
I did follow the link to the article - will bookmark for another time though, as Izzy is sleeping, and I have THINGS TO DO, that do not include reading a really long article! (Or sitting here with the laptop at all for that matter... back in a bit!)Isabella Molly born 14th January 2009

They didn't tell me I could go with him for the first 2 so he was taken off me
