And can I just quickly nip in that I have given up even pretending that I make my own baby food, Amber has Heinz mums own jars. So yes, I am a big fat hypocrite and I eat yellow snow and smell of poo :o Got 9 of the 7month+ for £4.00 (or maybe £4.50, I forget) in asda :D Bargaintastic!

We had great notions of doing it but so far the totally nonlumpy jars are winning out. We might start mashing veg when she's ok with lumps - but when we can buy six jars of organic baby food that's made of multiple veg for cheaper than the organic veg to make our own it doesn't make sense.

Edit: I've just upset a FOAF on FB
My friend's 33 weeks pregnant, and after walking around all of Wednesday she updated that she was having mild contractions yesterday. Lots of people said, Oh no, feel better, and one person who's a NICU nurse said, Okay, hon, nothing to worry about, if the baby comes now it'll still be fine but take care of yourself and rest, and if the contractions get regular call your doctor. Another woman took exception to this because she had two very early (not 33 weeks, like 29 and 30 weeks) babies and started saying how unhelpful and insensitive it was to say that they'd be fine because HER babies weren't fine and the HORROR STORIES she could tell about 33 week babies in the NICU andandand. Someone kindly said, you know [First Person] is a NICU nurse, and this woman is just spilling her anger about her own babies all over the place because SHE was offended and doesn't see how she might be upsetting the pregnant woman (whose contractions have stopped BTW). She also said that 33 week babies are overwhelmingly likely to be severely handicapped and so on and so on - we know that isn't true from our lovely dinky babies and I was a 32 week baby myself and that's DOCTOR SS to you.

I may have told this women to !!!!!! and stop being so insensitive around the pregnant lady. She may have responded whinging further. I may be sitting on my typing fingers as soon as I am done with my edit.

FWIW I bought a brand new one for Lexi, as we too are all open plan and have no doorframes :( I ebayed it when I was done with it and made £7.00 - that was xmas though and they were sold out everywhere so might have helped but they dont seem to drop in value :) I think someone got a good deal on mumsnet or something though.

Interesting article. I've just got to this bit:
In 2002, nearly 30 per cent of babies in UK hospitals were given supplemental bottles by hospital staff, and nearly 20 per cent of all babies were separated from their mothers at some point while in hospital.
 Why would one in five babies need to be taken away from their mothers? I actually wrote in my birth plan that Alice would be accompanied at all times by either me or OH but I didn't think it was that common for babies to be taken elsewhere.

That is actually very interesting, a lot of it is a bit one sided, but the idea of interference with BF is interesting to me. Especially with Amber in SCBU being made to wait 4 hours when I was ready to feed after 3. I've always felt there was too many 'rules' for something that should be natural.

Alex had Mums own Creamy porridge last night. Because i couldn' t be arsed to do the powder type porridge thing. Too much milk, not enough, too much milk, not enough = Too much porridge.

Nowt wrong with jars. Am off to Sainsburys after work as its 1/3 off baby stuff. And they usually include the food. Alex seems to like the Plum range and Ellas Kitchen. Whoever she is?

K was taken from me on my 2nt. :(
he'd had the 'jitters' from birth and was struggling to feed. so he was taken away for some tests and i presume was given food but tbh i never asked as when they brought him back i was never so pleased in my life to see someone.

dont know what caused the jitters though.

come to think of it i really should see bout reading all my notes with someone to fully understand everything that happend the 2 of us

It's the mums own ones and so far they look more like real food than the others. And Amber DEVOURS them!

Can I be all defensive and say that as a poor put-upon mother of 3 (4 including the one I'm married too) I barely have time to cook for us let alone cook, mash, squish and ok, it's the DEFROSTING that gets to me. A freezer full of stuff and I forget to bring it out.

But yeah, the jars work out cheap.

And then you pop tea lights into them for when you sit out the back with the neigbours :D

J had to go for blood sugar test at 4hrs, 6hrs, 12hrs & 24hrs old. They didn't tell me I could go with him for the first 2 so he was taken off me
I went the other times in my sexy nightie cos I forgot to pack my dressing gown :rotfl:(it wasn't remotely sexy!)

Jack was given Forumla supplements because he just wasn't interested in my boobs at all - in fact they were trying to push it on quite a few mums.

Yeah but then Mummy gets the leftover porridge - not that there ever is any in this house! Jack is a gannet!

I think someone has swapped my baby - he is being really mischevious and has a huge grin on his face! He was in the Jumperoo and managed to pull his arm out of his sleepsuit (:o) and vest and was chewing on it through the neck hole! Just popped him in bouncy chair and he let out the loudest trump EVER and laughed :rotfl:
A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
