I hate pierced ears on babies. Well on any kid under the age of about 12, but especially babies. It's just wrong wrong wrong. It also makes your kid look like a gypsy.

I hope that doesn't offend anyone here LOL.

*Speaking of which, what's the perspective of you lovely people on early ear piercing? A friend of mine is wild to pierce her baby's ears and says she'll get it done around 4-6 months. I was a bit  but wondered if I was wrong to be so judgemental?

Eeep  I'd be horrified too, if Isla really want's them done when she's older I'd think about it but I was 15 before I was allowed to get mine done.

I've always waited until my girls were old enough to make the decision themselves. It's not my decision to make if they want pierced ears and at 4-6 months they can't make that decision.

Sorry if i offend anyone but i HATE baby ear piercing!
How can someone justify putting their baby though pain for no other reason that their own whim?

I don't get how a mother can comfort a crying 4 mth old baby when they have caused the pain that was not neccessary.

I feel bad enough when babies get jags that are required.

However, lol, I don't mind kids getting it done from about 8/10 if they are aware it will hurt and make the decision themselves.

Squishy, I did a lot of reading on post-C-section conception, and the risks after the first six months are barely higher than for women who've had vaginal deliveries. The rate for uterine rupture goes from 4 in 100 000 to 5, or something much like that. I'll see if I can find the study again.

I feel a bit jealous too but I am convinced that for me it is best to have a larger gap. Aside from potential HG, there are no antihistamines to my knowledge which are considered safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding which wouldn't be so bad in the winter but in the summer it would be unbearable.

hiya squishy, I agree that the research says 18 months plus is better. I guess for me what swang it in the other direction (don't worry I know you weren't referring to my situation at all:A, i just thought I'd say a bit more about the other research out there! In case it's of use)was:

I knew that I ideally wanted 3 children and wanted to reduce the risks to each of their health by trying to be less than 40ish if I could.

I knew that by working out what was dangerous about close together pregnancies I could offset any risks before hand (iron asnd folate increase, getting BMI back down to 21.5 before conceiving again, daily vitamins, lots of protein.) I was also exercising again before conceiving.

All of this makes me feel more confident about going for it again with a short gap, based on what I've read.

If this is no interest, please ignore, but I've looked into it a lot and if you'd like any more info about the risks of short gaps or how to offset them then I'd be more than willing to say more :)

Thank you lovely ladies :) I'm always interested in more information on things! I also know that waiting a bit longer would probably be best financially (nursery fees for Elena are going to be incredible ) and it will allow me to lose some weight - I didn't lose as much as I would have liked before this pregnancy, and would like to lose about 5 stone now if I can. I was just 4 days shy of my 31st birthday when I had Elena, so am still 'young' enough to be able to have another one before I'm 35ish which is the ideal - though maybe more than one as twins run in the family :D

Sugar - I don't think you're being judgemental at all! I'd not be happy about a baby getting their ears pierced so early: I got mine done for my 16th birthday :o

Susan, it sounds awful. I'm so sorry :(

Alice is welcome to come and visit us (assuming she brings her lovely parents with her). We live close to an awesome museum, too.
We did get Alice out of it though so it was definitely worth it.

If we ever make it to Germany I'll let you know. We did once get as far as buying passports.

That would be really good but I found loratidine didn't work. (Which is why I didn't know it was okay as I hadn't checked.)

  • Hi all,

Hope everyone is well & all enjoying the meet.

Beenie - i've still not been to any of the groups. Mainly cos OH has had quite a few days off work so we've just been doing stuff the 3 of us. Booked in for baby massage from March tho & looking forward to it. And planning on trying some others starting next week.

One thing i was gonna try was the Newbies club at our local Odeon. They have one screening a week on a Tuesday morning and the sounds a bit quieter & lights a bit brighter & it's aimed at parents & babies so no-one minds if they cry or moan. Obviously you don't get a choice of film but it seems like a good place to meet people in same situation. And if you don't like people or don't feel comfortable you can just watch the film and leave, but can stay and chat if you feel like it, so no pressure and no feeling awkward.

3 - thanks for the sling, it's great.

    xx
