Tara, it sounds to me that he's imposing his own thoughts on to you rather than being led by the bible. Just because his daughters had a dedication doesn't mean he should refuse to Baptise your daughter. It also sounds like he's using it as a reason to get you to attend bible study.0

Church of England, very closely linked to the school that my children attend.
the C of E website says that baptism is open to all in the parish even if the parents don't go to the church, so it seems strange that he's refusing it. It doesn't seem in keeping with the type of church he works for...

I'd try and speak to the Vicar again and if you get nowhere speak to the Dean.
My Rector doesn't refuse anyone who wants their child Christened whether the parents attend regularly or not - he does pass comment during his Baptism sermons though. He even split the service so keep the older members of the Congregation happy - they get a traditional service and then the chance to leave during the Coffee Break.Proud to be dealing with my debts

Jillie, that's exactly what it is now, clap-happy. Kids were taken in a line round the church last time singing and clapping like at a school disco. They have always been welcome there, there's never a problem. He said that the church has got it wrong over the years and christening everybody wasn't what should have happened, his daughters had a dedication. Has told me I need to go to some groups he has organised to study what christening means. So I got my Sunday School bible out and it said the John the Baptist was happy to baptise anyone???
sounds like he's the type of 'clergyman' who will do a naming ceremony/dedication but leave the actual christening until you yourself are able to say 'yes, thats what i want'. a lot of the newer churches are like that.
why should you have to go to a group to understand what christening is???
i'd be showing him that part of the bible
sounds to me, like he probably will not budge on this, is there any other 'new babies' in the parish that will be wanting a christening? maybe you could speak to them and see what they think?
otherwise the only way forward is to speak to the Dean,he may not be able to make him perform the christening, but maybe able to offer a solution.
my clergyman in Ireland, has already told my mum he'd be happy to christen Kian in Ireland but at the moment it will be here.'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
Q. I'm not a regular churchgoer. Can I still have my child baptised?
A. Yes. The Church believes that God's love is available to all, regardless of their background. Your parish priest can talk you through the options: you might prefer to have a Thanksgiving service first and then consider baptism when you have had time to talk through what is being asked of you.
You may also wish to find out more about the Christian faith and what joining the Church involves before you make a decision about baptism. Again, your parish priest can give you guidance.

well if the archbishop's council has published that story then he's on a sticky wicket with his superiors if he says it's deceptive!!!!
