I think it's the christening that is really bothering me.

ok, you need to sepak to him again and explain that you really want a proper christening. As a vicar i'm sure this is one of his 'jobs' not a naming ceremony or dedication (think Krystal had this). And in the nicest way possible, say that if he's not willing to do that, can he give you contact details of another vicar who will.

his role is not to 'impose' his thoughts and beliefs on his congregation but to lead them.

i must admit i really dislike the 'clap-happy' style church. i'm a tradtionalist at heart. So I hope our vicar will do christenings. I do have a back-up plan though just in case...

Hi Tara, Hugs for you, it sounds really tricky, and quite disappointing too after all the thinking you've put into it all :(

What denomination of church is it if you don't mind me asking? It's just that some church denominations will always offer a christening in their building and some will only do it if certain criteria are met.

choppy, did you keep the crawl ball or the similar one from Boots? Just reminded me as Rhys is playing with his crawl ball now. He doesn't go anywhere, but will lay on the floor, pushing himself on on his hands watching it for ages, then lunge for it when it stops :D
  • [STRIKE]Choppy - I had the do after Katie's Christening at home, I didn't bother with decorations, not enough room for people and decorations. I think I got my table cloth from Woolies.[/STRIKE]

    Sorry Tara

Jillie, I have some covered trays from BabiesRUs but when I use icecube trays, I either cover them with foil or don't bother.

Jillie, that's exactly what it is now, clap-happy. Kids were taken in a line round the church last time singing and clapping like at a school disco. They have always been welcome there, there's never a problem. He said that the church has got it wrong over the years and christening everybody wasn't what should have happened, his daughters had a dedication. Has told me I need to go to some groups he has organised to study what christening means. So I got my Sunday School bible out and it said the John the Baptist was happy to baptise anyone???

We kept the crawl ball in the end (took back the Boots one which was the most expensive thing in the 3 for 2 offer, and they refunded the whole amount :D).

Caitlin hates laying down, but will sit up and watch it. She'll give it a few pushes as well but also lunges for it when it stops :D

Church of England, very closely linked to the school that my children attend.
