Cant decide what to spend on engagement ring

I have chosen the ring, and now have the choice between 18ct white gold or platinum and cut quality.

If I have premium cut, its £1625; hearts & arrows is £1812. Then if with platinum £2235.

Which should I go for?

  • You couldn't have got one in the sales a couple of weeks ago? ;)

It's down to what you can afford really, if you can comfortably afford the top price one and it's the one you want to give then go for it but there's no point overstretching yourself.

Has she expressed an interest of what she might like? I didn't want a heart and arrows, but definitely wanted platinum, and that's what I got, was perfect for me.

Its all dependant on your budget.

My ring was £200 its 9ct white gold with .10 of a diamond in it, looks no different to any of the simlarly more expensive ones either, but thats because im not a big fan of jewellery and personnally there are many more things i could do with nearly 2k than have it sitting on my finger.
(putting it towards a house deposit or new car, pay of debts - not that we have any, dream holiday where the memories will last a lifetime etc etc)

DF would have quite willingly spent 2k if i hadnt of said anything to him beforehand. He's a great believer in the whole i must spent a months+ wages on one its the law.

Until i pointed out that it was a rule made up by the jewelley industry!!!

He has now been ring shopping with me and can now see how fussy i am, i must have tried on about 50 wedding rings of all shapes and varieties and i still havent found one im happy to wear the rest of my life.

I think you need to find a way to get ideas from her on what she would like.

My OH was horrified I chose a ring in the sale for £125! He was looking at spending £1K plus, until I pointed out I would be too scared to wear it and that money would be better spent on Louboutins for me :D
However he won't spend £300 on shoes LOL
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

I think you have the same obsession with louboutins that i have.

DF is the same too will spend money on a ring but laughs when i suggest that amount for shoes.

OH definitely loves it, have a choice of 3 and she has asked me to choose. Just need to decide what quality of diamonds. Budget isn't so relevant we have enough money my only fear is to look back and wish I'd bought the better ring.

I would go for Platinum in that case, white gold will need replating over time. As to cut of diamond, unless you are an expert they won't look massively different. Classic premium will look nice!

    this is my ring http://www.samarajames.com/acatalog/info_r1_174.html

    it is gorgeous.

Have a look on there I can't recommend them highly enough to be honest for my ring it was £506

    its 0.30c
    SI 1
    E Exceptional White
    Premium cut
    in 18c white gold

So with the money your looking to spend you could get a bigger and better diamond :)
