I was talking to a guy at work about the iPad this morning, and he's of the opinion that if the price is around £400 he's buying one. When I mentioned that the lack of multi-tasking had been raised, his reply was "Why the f*** would I want it multi-tasking? If I'm lounging around I want it to do one thing at a time. If I wanted multi-tasking, I'd go sit in front of my laptop." :rotfl:

Frantic Steve Jobs Stays Up All Night Designing Apple Tablet

CUPERTINO, CA—Claiming that he completely forgot about the much-hyped electronic device until the last minute, a frantic Steve Jobs reportedly stayed up all night Tuesday in a desperate effort to design Apple's new tablet computer. "Come on, Steve, just think—think, dammit—you're running out of time," the exhausted CEO said as he glued nine separate iPhones to the back of a plastic cafeteria tray. "Okay, yeah, this will work. This will definitely work. Just need to write 'tablet' on this little strip of masking tape here and I'm golden. Oh, come on, you piece of !!!!! Just stick already!" Middle-of-the-night sources reported that Jobs then began work on double-spacing his Keynote presentation and increasing the font size to make it appear longer.

Finally, someone who understands what it's for!

All these people who are complaining about the lack of USB ports and whatnot: what are they going to do with an iPad? Keep their printer in the bathroom so they can easily print things out while having a poo? Bring their 1 TB external HDD filled with Blu-ray rips and a 5.1 surround system on the train to watch movies during the commute to work?

I've never really understood the adulation some people have for bits of hardware.

Doesn't anyone find it odd that everyone thanks people who have commented on this thread and yet absolutely NO ONE before me has bothered to thank the original author of this topic?

    Thanks for sharing Marty :)

That is very true! At the most you might want to listen to music while surfing the net and just like the iphone when your ipod is playing switching doesn't stop the music. One of the best explanations I've heard why it doesn't really need it! :)

If you just want it to do "what it's for", then great...but just because a device has multitasking capabilities, doesn't mean you'd have to use it.

The issue is, once again, that Apple are prescribing how you're to use their prescious hardware...

You think multitasking isn't a big deal now, but wait 'til Jobs is flopping around the stage next year going..."it's like the iPad - but we're giving you...freedom...now you can surf the web and instantly switch to a book...or your pictures...then instantly...I can switch back! (applause) ...all this for an extra $200! Now, who wants to iTouch me?"...

You'll see the value in it then, won't you... *sigh*
