I guess it depends what sort of websites you use. I loathe Flash with a passion, so I welcome anything that brings its ultimate demise closer.

Is that for a rational reason though, or irrational like some reactions to this thread?

Odd isn't it? I don't want a netbook. I've fiddled with a couple and found them pointless.

However I could happily fit an iPad into my life. I don't need storage, I have plenty of external storage. I don't need connections or multitasking - I have several computers, an xbox and a telly connected to them. Flash? I've never noticed its absence on my iPhone, but maybe that is because of the types of website I don't visit.

But I would happily sit with an iPad on the sofa. I would love to have one to look at in bed because the laptop is too big and intrusive. I would happily use it in the kitchen, 'cos yes, I store recipes on my iPhone (plus that excellent Jamie Oliver app) and an iPad would be bigger and clearer. I would use it to read books and mags on my daily train commute to work. Oh yes.

I am probably going to buy an iPad when they become available. I am probably the iPad's target market - I want it for what it can do, and because, as a Mac user since the '80s I know that it will do what it does superbly.

I don't need what it can't do - I have other things to do that. I don't think the iPad is targeted at people who want one machine to do everything - this is exactly the drawback of most netbooks.

Seriously, whats the the Multi-Tasking obession thats so prevalent in this thread.
The ability to do things like synchronisation / net surfing / listening to music / download email. ALL AT THE SAME TIME .
  • On the iPad, its not meant as process heavy computer, what yoy going to do, try and use photoshop - its meant for the internet and for eBook reading

At my work, we have a 'fleet' of netbooks to use on the wireless network while moving, all of which feature most (if not all) programmes our main PCs do - Design Premium CS4, Various Desktop Publishers, and Photoshop. Admittedly, I try and avoid the resource-hungry ones when I am on a netbook but it is handy to know they're there.

I remember one day quite long ago where I used one of the EEE Pcs for a news feature I was involved in - I ran it off it's battery for about 5/6 hours on the wireless network using mainly Serif Pageplus X2 (which was quite new at the time) and got some really fantastic results.

It's good to have flexibility when you need it, which I feel the iPad does not offer :( .

    Hm...

Apple didn't fit their OSX into the iPad...

So some guy installed OSX into his Nokia n900 mobile instead...

Whilst it is loathsome and people who use it excessively should be tortured VERY slowly, Flash is still used a lot and so support for it on a device designed for surfing the net should be included

Mainly because it's a terrible resource hog.

Pretty cool, but the two hour boot time might be a problem for most people. :o

That's almost irrational then. The resources it uses are not a problem on any modern PC/laptop, so the benefits far outweigh the negatives?

YouTube is already moving to HTML 5, and other sites will follow.

hmm well the HTML5 feture set doesn't really toally overlap, flash's area does it, Ive only take a quick look at html5s reference, but its not like it can do animation or even general vector graphics, (even if it does declaritive markup of it is crazy)

Meh non functional requirements are always bottom of the importance file, just below de juer standards when people actually need to get things done quickly
