Seriously, whats the the Multi-Tasking obession thats so prevalent in this thread, . I cant think of any professional that wil require a phone to multitask.

If you want to listen to last.fm while looking through your photos; if you want to copy and paste between a web browser and a word document; if you want to do anything reasonably productive on your iPad you need to be able to multitask

That's almost irrational then. The resources it uses are not a problem on any modern PC/laptop, so the benefits far outweigh the negatives?

Well, that's certainly one way to look at it. It also increases page loading times though, and it often turns websites in usability nightmares.

hmm well the HTML5 feture set doesn't really toally overlap, flash's area does it, Ive only take a quick look at html5s reference, but its not like it can do animation or even general vector graphics, (even if it does declaritive markup of it is crazy)

HTML 5 can be used to do some pretty cool things:

  • Just a shame that about three websites on the entire internet actually use HTML 5. At any rate, Apple really do have a case to answer: several promo images have been modified to show the iPad working with Flash, and I believe that a large portion of the market Apple are targeting will want to access Flash.

wellll its not really HTML5 is it... its javascript.
HTML5 just provides a cavas which code can paint on, so whats to top loads of silly (possibley platform specific) plugins using the canvas, for apps that need somthing more efficient than javascript ? or want to protect their code ?

Any franky the web does not need javascript animation monstrosities thrust upon it.

I don't need what it can't do - I have other things to do that. I don't think the iPad is targeted at people who want one machine to do everything - this is exactly the drawback of most netbooks.

I'm not sure I understand. What do you consider the drawback of most netbooks?

what do you propose to do when you need more storage on your iPad?

Can I download and run the BBC iPlayer to run on the iPad? (This could be retorical but just checking). Bit acedemic 'cos the iPad has not got FCC approval so can't be used anywhere as yet.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Seriously, whats the the Multi-Tasking obession thats so prevalent in this thread, everybody is on about this, on this and the iPhone. My iPhone is for my music, internet/email when commuting, ocado, playing games and obviously phone calls, i dont need to multi-task on my phone. I cant think of any professional that wil require a phone to multitask. However technically speaking, the iPhone can multi-task - it can play the music in the background!

On the iPad, its not meant as process heavy computer, what yoy going to do, try and use photoshop - its meant for the internet and for eBook reading. If you want a internet device that can multi task, choose another brand and stop with the whining !!!!!!! If you want a device that can access the internet that is as easy as picking up a magazine, here is the device for you.

When the first iPhone came out, its adherents were asking why on earth anyone would want to use 3g.

But this isn't about the iPhone. The iPad isn't a phone.

    Internet and eBook reading?

I can do that. On the spur of the moment, I just re-invented the iPDA. I've already got one in the drawer. All it needs to finish it off is a magnifying glass or a larger screen.

This frustration about multitasking on the iPhone/iPod Touch and now iPad. The 3 devices are capable of it. The Operating system is capable of it. Apple's own software does it (the actual phone software, iTunes playing in the background. The problem is that Apple WON'T ALLOW all the other people who write software to use multitasking.
I had a PC that would stutter MP3s when I started Word. That was a technical limitation. My Palm m100 couldn't multitask, that was a technical limitation. My Palm Pre CAN multitask because it's technically able to AND Palm has allowed developers to multitask and run programs in the background.
And if iPhone OS4 does come along with multitasking, it'll be after years of pressure. Do you want to have to do that every time something is left out?

Apple threatened by Chinese company over iPad
Apple has refused to comment on the possible legal action, but industry experts say any legal action by the Chinese company is unlikely to succeed. The two devices are wildly different, with the P88 using a resistive touch-screen rather than the multi-touch screen of the Apple iPad, and using a 250GB hard drive compared to the iPad, which uses flash memory.
