Sorry, but spending $900 on a computing device in 2010, I'd expect it to cope with memory cards without spending even more money.
Does anyone know if the SD card reader is fully functional, or limited to picture importing duties? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

You missed a bit:
So yay, you get to pay another thirty bucks for a proprietary Apple-only connector (which probably cost a couple of bucks to make) and which you have to carry around and hope you don't lose. Well done you.
Of course, I can just slot my SD card into my netbook and edit my pics with any editing program choose, but I'm sure your way is much more convenient. Apple - It Just Works! (if you pay us)
Really, you're just looking for things to criticise. First you complain you can't load your holiday snaps onto it. Well, you can.
Now you're complaining that it costs $29 to do so. Well, so what?
Not everyone is going to want to plug their camera into their iPad, and for those that do, $29 isn't a lot of money to pay for that ability. And yes, carrying around an iPad and a 2cm x 2cm accessory would be much more convenient than carrying around a netbook. It's more portable, has a longer battery life, and a higher quality screen.
So come on, what's the real reason you don't like the iPad? Your criticisms aren't grounded in any sort of objective fact, and you appear to just be throwing sh*t until some of it sticks.

Sorry, but spending $900 on a computing device in 2010, I'd expect it to cope with memory cards without spending even more money.
Lots of laptops and desktop don't have an SD card slot.
I could equally say that now I expect every computing device over $900 to have a multi-touch LED backlit screen, solid state storage, a 10 hour batter life (while watching videos) and mobile internet, but that would be silly.
For every laptop, at every price, you could get a more powerful desktop for the same amount of money. Yet people who buy laptops aren't idiots, they're just prepared to put up with whatever limitations a laptop has in order to get the benefits of one.
The same applies here.Does anyone know if the SD card reader is fully functional, or limited to picture importing duties?
No idea I'm afraid.0 -
The amount of memory vs cost in the different models is interesting. 16Gb iPad is listed as $499, but 64Gb is $699. The 64Gb SSD's on Dabs website start at £117, so maybe that extra $200 is acceptable.I have no signature.0

It seems the only people who are bigging this thing up, are those who believe Apple can do no wrong and deserve our worship.
Those who simply want stuff to do stuff with, but couldn't give a monkeys who makes it.... see this thing as largely pointless, it strives to achieve something, but it doesn't actually seem to do anything.
It can't replace anything, and it doesn't introduce anything.0 -
For starters, comparing it to a laptop or netbook doesn't tell you much as it's neither of those things. Secondly, if the major selling point of the product is its user experience, then no, comparing to the specs of other products doesn't tell you a whole lot.
I think laptops/netbooks are a pretty good thing to compare it against, actually...they're all electronic portable media devices, seems fair.
Doing a quick comparison, the iPad's smaller than a laptop, probably prettier, but can't do as much stuff. Same's probably true of a netbook, too, which I've never seen the point in either.
I guess if it's useful depends on if you're really bothered that the bag you're going to have to carry the thing around in is a pound or two lighter...and if you're bothered about being able to whip the thing out on a train and have women swooning at your feet - "Oh! Look at that supercool guy with his supercool iPad...I must remember to do him later!"
Sure, I've never "held" the thing, or indeed been on the same continent as one...but I'm a grown up, I can make a relatively educated decision on the thing based on the specs, the demo etc...My phone's more than adequate for watching video on a train, for checking my email on the move and for browsing the odd web page...I don't see anything in the iPad making it worthwhile me having to carry a handbag with me wherever I go...0 -
Now you're complaining that it costs $29 to do so. Well, so what?
"So what"? You don't care that you have to pay hugely over the cost-price for an Apple-only adapter to provide basic functions for your iPad? I suppose you're also ecstatic about the fact that the basic keyboard for the iPad (Apple-only, of course) costs a staggering $70. Yay, another chance to hand over your hard-earned money to your favourite deity. :T
$49 for a standard case, too, but at least you'll be able to buy a cheaper case from somewhere else - Apple haven't yet figured how to lock that down to a proprietary connector. I'm sure they're working on it, thoughLots of laptops and desktop don't have an SD card slot.poppy100 -

'fess up: what gives?
looking?
no one even has to look because apple have provided a list of things that are wrong with it!
cant load holiday snaps onto it
> out the box you cant
costs $29 to do so, so what
> what other computing device at this price level do you have to buy a usb adaptor for? what do you mean so what? $29/£30 to do something that you should already be able to do, that you can already do on every other pc or laptop out there?
not everyone is going to want to plug their camera in
> what?! its for viewing pictures on! its got a pictures app! how are you supposed to get pictures onto it?
$29 isnt a lot? for $90 youve got a choice of digital cameras on amazon, so that makes a simple adaptor horrendously expensive
carrying around an iPad and a 2cm x 2cm accessory would be much more convenient than carrying around a netbook
> how? it dosnt have anything to protect the screen, so you then have to have more stuff just to do that
oh look, theyll sell you a case for another $39!
it dosnt have a keyboard!
oh look, theyll sell you one of those for another $69!
& the case wont even store the keyboard, doh!
so its more convenient to carry more stuff just to be able to do what anyone can do on a netbook?
& theyll even charge another $137 just to do so
that now makes the entry level iPad $636
longer battery life
> not yet tested
higher quality screen
> higher quality than what?
Dell have a netbook with 'Glossy 10.1 inch HD display (1366x768) WLED'
i can take that very same Dell Inspiron Mini 10 & put every spec up to the top, & it comes in at $504
that includes a webcam, a 160GB HD, a 1.6Ghz processor, 1GB ram
ok, its a bit bigger than the iPad, but the iPad will still need to go in a bag the same size as a Mini 100 -

but the difference between 16Gb & 64Gb isnt 64Gb
its 48
amazon have a 48Gb ssd expresscard for $145
so thats the ssd, plus expresscard interface, at retail, for less than what apple are charging0
