The Apple iPad

Who wants one?
Me, depending on the price. I'd been looking at a Toshiba laptop that had a swivel screen, which basically turns it into a tablet, for reading text and PDF files files when I was at Uni (for reference books, etc). The iPad is the sort of option I was looking for, so I'd definitely consider it.I have no signature.0 -
Never a fan of touch screen computing, i'm far more quicker with a keyboard.
the main problem with the I-pad i have read. if it hasen't been mentioned already on here already. Is that it can't multitask.
Meaning that:
'If this is supposed to be a replacement for netbooks, how can it possibly not have multitasking? Are you saying I can't listen to Pandora while writing a document? I can't have my Twitter app open at the same time as my browser? I can't have AIM open at the same time as my email? Are you kidding me? This alone guarantees that I will not buy this product.'

also no built in camera, now come on apple your just being tight now, as foxconn make all of your products for you in china for next to nothing, how can you justify such lacking of technology for such a high price. :A
Simple, if they don't put the features in now they can sell you the 2nd Gen one in 18 months time, then the 3rd Gen etc. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

As I'm sure you can remember technology companies often seem to have a strange exchange rate where $1 = £1.
That will be the make-or-break part for me. $499 usually means £400+ when it hits the UK shores, which is more than I'd be willing to pay.I have no signature.0 -
No USB seems odd also, so if you've got a flash drive with photos on it I can't just stick them straight onto your iPad.0

Couple of other little problems
3G version uses a micro-sim so you can't use your existing sim in it - and no UK (and very few world-wide) phone company currently offers them
iBooks only works in the US, so one of the main reasons for buying one doesn't exist outside the US0 -
oh dear Apple shares droped 3.5 per cent. could the Ipad be paddling up **** creek for apple?0

We all laughed at the Wii when that name was announced and I suppose some still are, however its been accepted somewhat.
The iPad looks great - but it falls between all the stools. Its not particularly mobile so main use will be at home or waving around at the office as proof that you're on the "cutting edge".- E-Reader - not really - poor battery life compared to a kindle and doesnt have an easy on the eye eInk screen.
- Photo viewer - not quite - if you need to use your PC to put them on the iPad why not just look at the pics on your PC?
- Movie viewer - not really - rather watch movies on my big TV
- Web browser - no flash support - are they stopping this because they dont want people playing free flash games?
- laptop replacement - nope - no multitasking and limited software.
Its a flashy toy. I can hear my spoilt niece's whining starting already..0 -
A truly underwhelming way to pitch something, imo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_zI21XEo0Q

I can't believe that the PR people thought that presentation was a good idea.I have no signature.0 -
You need a mirror, bud. You seem to be throwing a paddy fit every time someone says anything negative about your beloved Apple.
Nope, I think I'm being quite reasonable. The people who aren't being reasonable are ones who call it a piece of crap without ever having been on the same continent as an iPad, never mind actually using one.
Come on now Poppy; have a look in that mirror you prescribed for me. You make strong sweeping statements about a device you've never used, founded on nothing but, well, nothing, and then call me a fanboy because I happen to disagree with you.
The fact is, if any one of us could easily imagine using a device like that, we'd have gone on Dragons' Den, got the investment, and made it ourselves. That's just not true.
That is true to a huge degree. As of September 2009, there were 21,179 iPhone/iPod Touch games, 3,680 DS games, and 607 PSP games.Plus the vast majority of games for the iPhone are either iFart applications
I counted them a few weeks ago when someone said the same thing, and I think there were 150 or so.or crappy Miniclip-type games, that you can play for free online (or at least you could, if you had a device that was capable of Flash)
Firstly: I would argue that most games for most systems are crap, simply because not every game appeals to everyone. What's crap and what's not crap is subjective, and you'd need to have very eclectic tastes to like a majority of them.
Secondly: really? There must easily be over 30,000 games by now. You know what the "vast majority" of them are like? How many have you played? 1? 10? 20?0
