Me, depending on the price. I'd been looking at a Toshiba laptop that had a swivel screen, which basically turns it into a tablet, for reading text and PDF files files when I was at Uni (for reference books, etc). The iPad is the sort of option I was looking for, so I'd definitely consider it.

but that is the only thing you would be able to do

it can only do 1 thing at a time, you cant even have another programme/app open at the same time as another one

want to read an ebook & look up something up on the net?:

close the book, start up the net, look it up, close net, reopen book

win3.1 was better than that :rotfl:

A truly underwhelming way to pitch something, imo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_zI21XEo0Q

    The full, abysmal, pitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNnBlMB3L84

I can't believe that the PR people thought that presentation was a good idea.

Being fair, the unbutchered version on the Apple website is much better.

So you disagree that you should probably try something out before denouncing it as crap?

So you disagree that you should probably try something out before announcing it as brilliant?

So you disagree that people can read specs & make a comparison to already existing systems?
& then draw perfectly valid conclusions from that?

But that is the only thing I want it to do. I have a laptop and desktop if I want to open multiple application. I see my possible uses for the iPad as being mostly centred on reference/colour books (as I have a Sony eReader for text only books), learning applications, and browsing the web - none at the same time. The addition of watching video, using email, etc, are all toppings on the pie (for me) rather than the meat.

I was on the verge of buying an iTouch, purely for the mobile apps side of it (I already have a Sensa Clip+ for music). Now I'm not sure: iPad is less portable, but bigger screen means access to reference books and decent video screen, while the iTouch is highly portable, but no good for viewing large format reference books. Hmmm....

    really?!

you wouldnt want to have a book open, & be able to look up something at the same time?

if your in a class, & youve got your iPad with you, with a book open on it, how are you going to look something up?
what if theres a web link in said book?
what if you want to look at 2 books at the same time?

    learning applications?
you mean 'learn how to use an application'? you cant do that, it wont run full blown programmes

or did you mean 'learning/education software'? cant do that either, it wont run full blown programmes, & if any of them contain flash for anything, woopsy!

the fact that you already have a laptop, which allows you to do all of that, why would you want an iPad?
can i interest you in an analog mobile phone, where theres no sms/mms?
or how about dial-up internet access, which blocks all images & video?

    edit:
& based on your sig, you shouldnt be thinking of buying more stuff
which is all it is, stuff

Yes, really. As I said above, I have a Sony eReader for reading 'normal' books. I don't lament they fact that I can't read a book AND browse the web. If I want to multi-task, I use one of my less portable PCs.

While I'm not in education at the moment, even when I was I wouldn't use a PC when in a lecture. If I want to access more than one book at a time, I would use a tool that allowed me to: a laptop/PC would allow me to, but be less portable - there are pro's and con's to both, and I would use the tool that fitted the use I had at the time. To be honest, if I wanted to access more than one book at the same time I'd use the library.

I've never accessed a web link in a PDF book, so that's another thing which has no relevance to me. The possibility that I might in the future is not enough to sell something to me.

I mean applications that aid learning.

Actually, yes it will do what I want. After looking into whether the iTouch would be of use to me, I think I'm fairly sure that the iPad would do the same job.

It is more portable than a laptop, and is a tool that would do the job required of it. I set a criteria for something I need, and then see what fits the bill. Are you suggesting that I base my choices on your criteria?

I'm not sure where you are going with this. Are you trying to change my mind by feeble attempts at ridicule?

Are my finances any of your concern? Is this the Techie forum, or the forum where people dissect sig's to try and score points?
