  • I'll be following this thread closely. Got the text this morning. My signal with vodafone is terrible at home and at work, and I've been thinking about paying my way out of the contract to go back to O2. Hopefully I won't have to if I can cancel for free!

    I spoke to vodafone today regarding the price increase, the lady on the phone told me that its the 3rd party companies have increased there prices in those countries.

    Has anyone got any luck regarding this?

    it does not matter if third party countries have increased cost, or vodafone wants to rip their customers off, or due to climate change the price has to be increased. if the contract is changed, you have the right to cancel the contract. End of. Vodafone liars will say anything to fob you off and prevent you disconnecting. I am tired of big companies walking all over the little man and getting away with it. If they don't allow you to cancel your contracts, I suggest you tell them you want to disconnect, and if they charge early disconnection fees, take them to the small claims court. If a few people did this, they'd soon learn that it doesn't pay to lie.

    I'd suggest people actually read the contract before they sign it.

    You will almost certainly find that VF are within the T&C that the person agreed to when they signed up tro increase the price. Unfortunatly most people don't read the T&C in the rush to get the latest shiney new phone.

    Yes call charged have in some cases gone up, but thats life, and it's covered in the T&C.

    And before someone says I work for VF or I'm a company stooge I'm not. I'm just a VF customer who gets annoyed that people often seem to look for ways to weasel out of contracts.

    You signed the contract to get the shiney new phone now you need to stand by it or pay the early exit fee's.

    I looked at this, but having looked around, don't think I'd get a better deal.

    I'm not a Vodafone hater, never had any problems with them.

    I too agree that people should read and keep their contract documents until the end of the contract. However, you are wrong that people can't cancel as vodafones T&C's themselves say that people can cancel theor contracts if voda change their terms and conditions. Please do not post incorrect information.
  • Anyone tried one of the cheap calls from abroad SIMs? There seem to be so many and some look too good to be true - all incoming calls free and calls to UK at 24p etc. Make any network terms look greedy.

    Really, If I'm wrong someone must have been able to cancel. Show me anyone who's cancelled a contract down to this then.

    Despite what people want to think putting prices up is not against the T&C.

    As I see it the key bit is

    7.1 We may change our Charges and/or introduce new Charges from time to time. If we increase our Charges, we will give you at least 7 days notice. If we believe any change in our Charges will not disadvantage you, it may be included without notice.

    and

    7.2. We can make changes to or withdraw Services at any time and we can make changes to and/or introduce new terms to this Agreement at any time. We will give you at least 30 days notice of these changes if we do and you may have a right to end this Agreement under clause 11.

    Clearly says that they may put up charges with 7 days notice, they've actually given people 30 days notice. It says they may remove services and you have 30 days to possibly cancel the contract if you are affected.

    However you'll note that putting the charges up (in 7.1) DOES NOT have the get out clause that you may cancel the contract if you disagree.

    Vodafone have NOT made a change to the service, they have increased the charges, Section 7.2 does not come into effect and there is no get out clause in this section for a price increase.

    Reading section 11..

    11.1, 11.3, 11.4 and 11.5 are not relevent..

    11.2. You may end this Agreement by writing to us if:
    (a) we don’t do something fundamental that we should have done under this Agreement within 7 days of you asking us in writing;

    N/A

    (b) we tell you that there will be an increase in the line rental charge by more than the increase in the Retail Prices Index ("RPI", calculated as a percentage) since the last line rental increase and you write to us before the increase takes effect;

    N/A Line rental is not changing, it's roaming costs.

    (c) we increase your Charges in the UK which have the effect of increasing your total call and usage charges (based upon your usage in the previous month) by more than 10% and you write to us before the increase takes effect; or

    Could be applicable if it didn't say UK, this is more to say you can't cancel your contract if you usually spend £30 a month, then go on Holiday and get a bill for £300 because you used the phone as if you were at home.

    (d) we change this Agreement to your significant disadvantage including the change or withdrawal of Services (we will tell you if this is the case) and you write to us within one month of us telling you about the change. This does not apply where the change relates to Services which can be cancelled without termination of this Agreement.

    N/A it's about costs changing not services changing.

    It's all about averages, most people will either gain or stay the same over this. As on average call prices have lowered it's not you your disadvantage. If you were CONSISTANLY in a contry where they were higher, as shown by your useage, you may have a case, but crystal ball gazing that you may possibly go to Oman or Mongolia at some point in the future on holiday is not grounds to cancel.
  • excellent info there gjc, any movement on this or can we all officially stop hoping?
