vodafone change to world price plan T&Cs

I've stuck with Vodaphone for many years because their Vodaphone Passport deal allowed me to make calls in Japan and other countries in Asia for just a reasonable connection fee. Now they've increased the connection fee and tell me that Japan is no longer covered by Passport so I'll have to pay £1.49 per minute, rather than being allowed to use my inclusive minutes.
I'm now stuck in an 18-month contract, with two phones, that Vodaphone tell me will cost over £600 to cancel. Worse still, they're claiming that Japan has never been covered by Passport, but I know this not to be the case. What, if anything, can I do?? Are they allowed to make changes to charges in the middle of my contract??0 -
Japan isn't covered by passport according to their site - they are probably telling the truth on the phone.
The change they are making is to to with Vodafone World charges.0 -
There the network provider and facilator to your deal, They cant changed the tariff fully on you but thats why you see people get certain deals then others cannot because they been taken out of action by the current subcribers, other words first come first served,
but if they have to change the full tarrif they will have to let you know, you cant just migrate to another tariff, unless its a mass desicion by vodafone,
as for phoning japan ect, well i have heard they have got rid of the romaing rate on vf so they have to make there money back somehow i guess, you better checking the websites and terms and conditions of the contract you are on,"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -
Just received another reply after getting quite a few not so helpful ones. This one seems like they have actually read my email and responded to the questions i asked.

Good morning Carly,
Let me assist you with the relevant information.
Carly, please refer to the clause 11 in our terms and conditions which you can view by clicking on the link below :-

It clearly states that the if we increase the call charges for your usage in the UK and this affects your bills by more than 10% you have the right to terminate the contract.
In your case the charges involved are for the usage whilst abroad hence this doesnt apply to you.
Just to let you know, when you are abroad you use third party networks over which Vodafone has no control. We have agreements with third party networks so that you are able to use your phone whilst abroad. The increase in roaming charges are not controlled only by Vodafone UK but there are several other factors involved.
I am sorry you wont be able to cancel your contract without any ETF payment.
I trust the above information is useful.
Kind regards,
Vodafone Customer Services0 -
i heard that in the u.s if there mobile operator cannot provide service they can be released form service and contract,
just a idea to use, you could tried non service to get released from contarct, ect,"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -
I tried to cancel my two contracts (18 months, each £17 per month) as my only reason for sticking with Vodaphone is so I can use the phones abroad, using Vodaphone Passport. As well as the increase in charges, it seems some countries have been removed from Vodaphone Passport - specifically Japan, where I know for a fact that Vodaphone Passport has been valid before - but I've got nowhere with customer services. They wanted to charge me in excess of £600 to cancel!
Then, the email reply I got was a template and doesn't address my question, it gives a badly written explanation of the fees charged for phoning premium rate phone lines (something I simply didn't ask about). All very frustrating! Next step is a letter to Vodaphone - I don't trust the address that the Customer Service advisor with attitude gave me, does anyone know where I should be posting my complaint?0 -
hey guys as it states in the contract were ment to have 30 days notice i only ot the text asmorning , this equalls 21 days notice ! im hoping i can use this to get out of my contract.0

Hi
They are referring to clause 11 c when talking about the UK. What about 11(d) "we change this Agreement to your significant disadvantage including the change or withdrawal of Services (we will tell you if this is the case) and you write to us within one month of us telling you about the change. This does not apply where the change relates to Services which can be cancelled without termination of this Agreement."
Withing 11(d) they use the word 'including' : which suggests there are other elements of the agreement (over and above change/withdrawal of services) that might be changed (one of those 'other element' would surely be the cost of calls when abroad). Wouldn't this enable us to terminate early?
Isn't there scope to try along those lines?

maybe the voda rep on here ca help us, or maybe we'll get more voda lies and propaganda ...only if you have to pay10% extra yada yada yada...
Vodafone have changed the agreement that we signed, we are no longer bound by that agreement. Obviously they don't want people to leave so they will giev you the 10% line and "Mr Smith you have not made any overseas calls this month so you can't cancel as I have a Vodafone crystal ball which tells me you will never make any overseas calls during your 36 month vodafone contract" ad nauseum0 -
I've tried, and failed (by phone and email) to get a sensible response from Vodaphone on this issue. I make a lot of calls from abroad and Vodaphone Passport is the reason I've stuck with Vodaphone for many years, so these changes have come as a bit of a shock. The email response from Customer Services simply don't address the questions I'm asking, and on the phone, the customer service advisors either don't know what I'm talking about, tell me there's nothing I can do or, on the Japan issue (Passport DID once cover Japan), simply tell me that I'm wrong.
My last throw of the dice will be a letter to Vodaphone Customer Services, but I don't hold out much hope. What I do know is that though they may have me stuck in two contracts that have now had their conditions changed, there is no way I'll be sticking with Vodaphone once the contracts come to an end, and will be encouraging people I know to avoid Vodaphone as well. Their customer services is amongst the worst I've ever come across.0
