August is always cheaper, because it's too hot, humid, and unbearable at times.. However, it's dirt cheap because of that!
I noticed the hot, humid and unbearable more than the dirt cheap, but then I've nothing to compare it with.

OTOH there were street kiosks selling water on every corner and it was worth going into shops just for the aircon.

Hi, happy to help you with this one, I stayed at the Chelsea Lodge back in November of last year, its on a quiet street (apart from the school opposite). A couple of blocks away is the start of the highline which is a nice walk along the rooftops and can bring you out not far from Chelsea Markets (note, doesn't really open till 10.00am). Plenty of restaurants close by, would reccomend the RUB (righteous urban barbecue) not far away, its like someones front room but with lovely barbecue food.

The hotel itself isn't bad, the rooms themselves are basic with sink and shower inside, toilets are shared with a couple on each floor, never had to queue for one. One thing to watch out for is there is at least one single bedroom which isn't mentioned in the website, the staff there are....... pleasant?? but not very welcoming.

If you have any more questions please ask and i'll be happy to try and help.

    Stew

Im not being funny but you have to be a bit soft to think NYC is unbearable at any time of the year.

  • I did go in august, the last week, and it was hot but not unbearable. I definately could put up with that again!

If I ever went at that time of year again, I'd take my wedding, engagement and 'special' ring off before leaving the UK! My fingers swelled up so much I honestly thought we were going to have to get them cut off!

    Hello New York Experts!

My friend and I (two females) will be in New York for the first time end of May, beginning of June:j.
Any particular hotels you would recommend to us? Would like a nice, clean hotel with twin beds at reasonable cost and in a reasonable area please?

Also any suggestions of things not to miss? Also any reasonable places to eat and drink?:D

    All help appreciated.

savvy-sue where is your "special ring"??
lewroll too big a choice for you and us to have a clue what you want and who you are . If not Manhattan you can have Brooklyn NJ Queens or Bronx. Have alook on the likes of lastminute.com , expedia or quikbook.com and lots more . Get a feel for the areas the different prices and match it up with what you want Remember Hotel rooms in NY are per room not per person . Often from England we get decent deals on The New Yorker/ The Cosmopolitan/The Wellington / some chains like Hilton & holiday inn etc have worldwide deals . Find what you want then ask if some clever person knows how to get the best possible deal or what to watch out for .Good Luck And Enjoy NYC

Reasonable, whats reasonable you may be minted or you may be scraping by?

Also "things not to miss" is very personal too, for instance I could tell you not to miss the guggenheim museum, but you may not like art, i could tell you to enure you go to top of the rock as opposed to esb, but you may acrophobic.

If you want help you need to help us to help you.

What are you into, how long are you going for, how much do you want to spend, what do you like doing etc etc etc.

One thing I can suggest is playing spot the bear as i'll be there from the 1st of June
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right
