Other than McDonalds, what is the cheapest bank to do this with? Last May i took out from HSBC as i remember comparing and thinking they did the cheapest. I will def check the McDonalds ones though
I plan on taking out a bit in one go.. i know its only about £2.20 per transaction with todays rate but that will add up if i keep taking out. Its annoying.
At £2.20 a go how many times a day are you going to withdraw money? even if you draw money every day and you are there for five days you are only talking about £11,hardly an amount to ruin your holiday.0 -

Exactly! £11 can get you a pretty decent meal in NYC. I would rather pay less.0

Hi.
Does anybody know if there are better (i.e. cheaper) times to fly during the week?
My mum has said she would like to go to New York in November and I have said I will go with her.
Obviously we want to avoid Thanksgiving and also not fussed about going during the week rather than a long weekend.
Quick look at flights and I'm being quoted £500+, simply wondered if that so like correct price.
Thanks.
do you know where you want to fly from?
We have just booked Thomas Cook Manchester - JFK 21 - 24th November for £719.96 (2 adults), I know you didn't want to do mid week/thanksgiving but it is just a guide.
we have no upgrade to seats for this as they were not available
(2 meals inc + hand - 6kg & hold luggage - 23kg)
We have booked the intercontinental Barclay for 3 nights room only for £679 (inc taxes 14.75% and £3.50)
We went through quidco and got £9 c/back as we only booked the flights through TC not the hotel (which was over £1500 each with flight and same hotel with TC)
So total PP was £699.482007 £1749
2008 £291.99
2009 JanMasscara £7.00 Feb megcabot books x 2 £20 XFactor tkts x 2 £58.00 (couldn't go though as they only phoned on day :-( ) foundation £7.99
total so far for 09 £92.990 -
We have 5 nights 30-10-2017 until 4-11-2017 flying direct both ways with Virgin from LHR - JFK.
We are staying at Doubletree by Hilton Times Square West.
Total cost £2547.48.
It's for 4 people, myself DH, DS 19 and Dd 17.
Onky extra charges are for pets or valet parking for car, of which we have neither.Grocery spends £193.44/ £70 per week or £303 per month0 -

What sort of " decent meal " can you get for £11?by the time you have paid the tax and a tip you will be lucky to get pint never mind a decent meal:rotfl:0 -
The cheapest I could find was a shuttle ride for $81.20 return, to The Shelburne Affinia Hotel. We are getting the 7 day MTA pass for $32 which we can use on the subway as well regardless of what mode of transport I use from the airport, guess I am just miserable :rotfl: I fully plan to make good use of the public transport links.
Can I ask what a MTA pass is please and what you can use it for and where I get one :-)
are you going by airtrain from the airport to your hotel?

MTA pass is a travel pass giving you unlimited use of the subways (and buses, but you probably won't use them) for the duration of the pass. If you're flying to JFK to can use to take the subway to/from the city (plus $5 for the airport section, you pay at the airport station). Keep hold of the ticket and use it to go in/out the barriers at subway stations, really simple. easiest place to get one is from a vending machine at any subway station, you can pay by cash or cards.
Its not valid to Newark airport, if you're flying there the easiest cheapish way to Manhattan is to take the NJTransit train, which is about $15 IIRC.Save £12k in 2019 #360 -
There are several good guides to the NYC subway on YouTube:

We're booking a cruise (Dover - New York) for September 2018. So far a lot of our 'usual' hotel websites (booking.com for example) aren't booking that far ahead and the ones which are (expedia) are showing low/no availability in a lot of hotels.
Are hotels likely to be booked up this early for next September, or have they just not released many rooms as of yet?
Can anyone share any insight?
