You have decided to get the subway to central park on Tuesday ( for Dakota Building,Strawberryfields ) you will probably find that you wake up about 3.00am due to the time difference ( i know we did ) but if you are up early you could walk up to Cental Park from your hotel and get breakfast on the way, this way you will see more of NY.
    Enjoy your trip.

Sounds like a plan! My hubby would sleep his life away, I on the other hand get by on 5-6 hours :rotfl:

What happens is your body thinks it is 5 hours earlier than it is in NY because of the time difference so if you normally wake about 8 am you will be waking up at 3am!
The plus side is you are up early and exploring the city.

    Hi.

Does anybody know if there are better (i.e. cheaper) times to fly during the week?

My mum has said she would like to go to New York in November and I have said I will go with her.

Obviously we want to avoid Thanksgiving and also not fussed about going during the week rather than a long weekend.

Quick look at flights and I'm being quoted £500+, simply wondered if that so like correct price.

    Thanks.

I'd be expecting to pay somewhere towards the lower end of £400-£500 in November. Skyscanner "monthly" comparison will give you different prices for each day. Try "UK" to "NYC" or even "Dublin" to "NYC" to identify potentially cheaper alternatives.

Price up BA Holidays including a hotel. Sometimes, not always, very cheap.

Norwegian might be an option (price up with food and hold luggage for comparison). Be happy with the airport they take you to!

If you have time to play with a website - look at this

    https://matrix.itasoftware.com/

I always use it and can often find some cracking prices - November seems to be coming out with direct flights from Heathrow for £397 [for 7 days] or £367 from Manchester [flying on a Tuesday, Thursday or friday.

    Quick tutorial

    Go to the website
    Departing = LHR
    Destination = JFK

Select See calendar of lowest fares
    Departing select 1st November
Length = 7 days [or whatever]
Click search and wait for the results.

If you only want to fly direct click on the right hand Stops link and untick 1 stop

During November - click on a date and price you are interested in
Again - click on the Stops button and untick 1 stop

To see more info about the flight click on the price.

To book you need to note all the details and then go to the airline website etc.

Just a guide - there's so much more the website can do.

    Enjoy

Just make sure you check hotel prices, you'll be doing well to get a room for under £150 a night in Manhattan, probably £200 or more. As PeacefulWaters said have a look at BA for flight and hotel, especially if you want to avoid the weekend, usually the cheapest air fares require a Saturday night stay but if you book a hotel with the flight this restriction is usually lifted.

BA currently have fares under £400 early November, I'm sure the other major airlines will be pretty close to that too.

    Hi all,
Does anyone know which banks in NY don't charge a withdrawal fee - I'm using a pre-paid Mastercard [as suggested my Martin] but realise that some banks will add an ATM charge when withdrawing so would rather avoid the fee.

    Thanks

TD Bank used to be free. I've read differing reports as to whether or not it still is. Some McDonald's stores have ATMs charging $0.99.

If an ATM does charge a flat fee then few large withdrawals will be cheaper than many small withdrawals.

It's also worth noting that card is king in NYC. Cash for tips and street food. Card for everything else.

Make sure you have back up cards to your prepaid preference.

Thanks for that peaceful waters. i had come to ask the same thing. TD bank have indeed started charging which is a real shame.

Other than McDonalds, what is the cheapest bank to do this with? Last May i took out from HSBC as i remember comparing and thinking they did the cheapest. I will def check the McDonalds ones though

I plan on taking out a bit in one go.. i know its only about £2.20 per transaction with todays rate but that will add up if i keep taking out. Its annoying.
