Any of those hotels on BA that you like the look of?
If anybody has stayed at or visited the following hotels, any recommendations/negatives will be appreciated.
InterContinental, times sq. £2303
Sheraton NY times sq. £2672
Grand Hyatt,Midtown £2692
New York Edition, union sq. £2937
Westin times sq. £2603
Ritz Carlton NY battery park £2855
Hotel Hugo soho/tribeca £2102
Sixty LES lower east side £ 2152
6 Columbus, midtown £22232
Royalton, midtown £2233
Sofitel, times sq. £2601
Sorry if a lot to comment on but they are all used by BA Holidays.
I have been informed by my ex next door neighbour who flies with BA a lot that they normally have a sale on starting Boxing day so hope to get some better prices as most of the above are costing £2000/£3000 for two people, one week flying from Newcastle.
Thanks again for all the helpfull replies.:T0 -
I mentioned the sales in post #7992 #7995 #8002 these may only be for Jan-Mar.
Which hotels are £2000 and how much is the package discount?
Which hotel has the biggest package discount and how much is the package price?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

Thanks for speedy reply richardw, i have edited my post with all the hotels and added the prices.
This is for two people flying: Newcastle-Heathrow - JFK return
17 March/24 March 2017
With BA Holidays, the price that they quote is for the whole package, flights and hotel. Transfers will be extra but as a first time to NY would probably just get taxi from airport.0 -
I haven't been to any of those hotels personally (I'm usually cheap and stay at a comfort inn, country inn or holiday inn in either Long Island City or Newark) but the Intercontinental looks like a good deal - it's a premium brand hotel and Times Square is tourist central, if that's what you're after. You'd need to join the free loyalty scheme to get free wifi in the room.Save £12k in 2019 #360

I've stayed at the IC Times Sq many times and I like it. It's a block west of Times Sq, just off 8th Avenue. Also stayed at the Grand Hyatt from your list, it's a good hotel but huge (over 1300 rooms), personally I wouldn't pay £400 above the IC for it, but it's all personal taste.
I don't know the Hugo or Sixty LES, but those locations are a nice and less touristic alternative to midtown and Times Sq. Lots of good nightlife down there, but a lot of people prefer midtown, especially if they are new to NYC.0 -
Thanks Duckyduck, richardw and SW17 for the info/replies.As a NW virgin we are doing a lot of research, i know there are cheaper hotels but as we are both over 60 we do enjoy a bit of comfort but our priorities are a good clean hotel in a safe area.
A how long is a piece of string question, what sort of spending money will we need for a week in NY.
We will probably have breakfast in a diner,a snack for lunch and go to a bar for drinks/eats at night.
i have not even thought about a " must do list " for sightseeing but will obviously do the usuall suspects,ie ESB,Statue of liberty, central park etc
We are not into fine dining or art museums.

i didnt find ny as expensive i thought it was going to be but i must recommend the new york pass, it includes bus travel and also entry and queue jumping for the major attractions i got a 3 day pass but will probably get a longer one when i go back. it makes getting around easy too as the buses are jump on jump off so you can travel above ground.

i stayed at the edison which is almost on times square itself but next time i will be staying a little further downtown as it really is easy to get around.
i would suggest if you like a good cup of tea take your own teabags lol as the american use mostly twinnings breakfast tea0 -

Thanks Taz for the heads up,the NY pass looks like a good idea,i suppose for a 7 day visit we would need a 5day pass each, nearly $600!
I think the best way would be to list what we want to see and price the total cost against the Pass price.0 -
Just got back from New York last weekend. Was certainly getting colder.
We stayed in Long Island City. Nothing fancy, but it was only 10 minutes away on the subway from the main things. I know if I went again, I would probably stay there. Don't think I would be that bothered paying double prices just for being in times square.
With regards to the passes. We used the New york pass for 3 days. We definitely got our moneys worth. We went up the statue on Liberty at midnight so avoided all the ques. With it getting so early, you have to plan quite acutely what you want to see in the light. That goes without saying though, plan lots to get most out of your trip etc0
