Thanks for the quick reply bb69.
I've priced it up separately and even with a 10% discount code from hotels.com I haven't managed to get within £100 of that price. Just wanted to check that I haven't missed anything obvious. Flights out and back are at times which work well for us.
Location of the hotel was what was important to us (my first time in NYC so not imagining we will be in the room all that much) as well as price (obviously!) and that seemed like a decent option. I'm open to alternatives in the area though!
I'm assuming that there is a Delta version of Premium Economy? The upgrade with Virgin was working out at about £100 per person for the flight back, which didn't seem too bad, so am hoping Delta might be the same.0 -

Hiya oh that's good for an upgrade on the way back. I don't know re Delta and premium i'm sure others will be able to chip in.
I'm sure you will have a great time. What other hotel's did you see?0 -
LHR - JFK - Delta - 11/04/14
JFK - LHR - Delta - 15/04/14 (arriving back in UK 16/04/14)
4 nights at the King & Grove New York
Total Price - £1540.30 (so £770.15 each).
I've stayed at the King & Grove, when it was a different hotel. The location is good, you're a short walk from a Subway Station which is a good thing.
As for price, I'm always a fan of booking things separately, and also, with K&G there are MANY different room types too, which room are Expedia booking you in?
A standard Queen room is $740.34 for the room, which is working out at £462.71 prepaid. (based on an exchange rate of $1.60 to the £1. Mastercard are showing 1.643499 today, so if you have a fee free card, it could be cheaper)
Delta are showing flights at £526 each return.
That gives me a grand total of £1514.71.
Or as Queen Deluxe Room is $833.25 which is £520, giving a total of £1572.78.
So without knowing what room that expedia are giving you, it could be cheaper booking directly with the airline (which makes it much easier if there are problems), and the hotel itself.I'm assuming that there is a Delta version of Premium Economy? Delta have Economy Comfort. It is a slightly better version of Economy, but slightly lower than Premium Economy on Virgin. Upgrade costs are probably around £40 per person, per leg (I'm guessing there, mine was £30, but my flight was a bit cheaper to NYC in Feb), and you get more legroom, better recline, and free spirits included.

Hey
Hope it's okay to join!
I'm looking to book a trip to NYC for mine & hubbys 1st year anniversary in May. Hoping to go for a week from around 22nd-29th although I'm flexible as long as we're in NYC for the 25th as that's our anniversary.
I've been having a look around & the cheapest deal I can find is £1575.65 for us both.
That includes Flights from Edinburgh to Newark (stopover in Heathrow) and the same on the return leg.
7 nights in the Marrakech Hotel on Broadway in a deluxe double room.
Does this sound about right? It's a package deal but I'm not sure if I'd be cheaper booking separately? If so could someone kindly point me in the right direction, I would be so grateful!

I stayed at the Marrakech on a trip in 2008. I wouldn't really recommend it. There are no lifts - the stairs are small too. The rooms are basic and on top of each other.
But this may suit some people, who just want a room for the night.
I would say the location was OK- right next to the subway which had the express train down to Times Square or grand central0 -
I wouldn't recommend the Marrakech either.. It's actually operating as an illegal hotel...0

Learning the Metro.....
Would I be better making a list of where I want to visit and learning if they are uptown/downtown/midtown etc or is there another way of learning the metro system. It doesn't seem as easy as the London underground - maybe I'm wrong?Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
after some advice off fellow New York traveler's,
need to find some travel insurance, I've looked on a few comparison sites, found a few cheap deals (for 2 Adults, and 1 child/student (aged 17) possibly classed as 3 adults ???
and one recommend any decent travel insurance, going for 5 days0 -
Have you worked through Martin's article on travel insurance? I think you'll find the 17 yo is NOT an adult as long as they still live at home, at least not with everyone.Signature removed for peace of mind0

First piece of advice. It is the subway.
If you do get lost, and ask for directions to the Metro, you'll be on the commuter trains known as the MetroNorth. This takes you to Connecticut, rather than staying in New York City.
It isn't any different to the London Underground. London trains go North, South, East or West. NYC goes Uptown (think North), Downtown (South).
Read a map. type in your locations into Google Maps, and choose the train, and see what results you get. Study it, and it'll all click.
