The Affinia is a really nice hotel in a a really good location too.

Loved the Affinia Dumont. We paid extra for a junior skyline suite with a view of The Chrysler Building. We loved the location too. It was great to catch the bus down 34th St to the East River Ferry for a $4 ferry trip to Brooklyn or Wall Street.

    Smyth all in is £1700
Affinia all in WITH a suite is £1500 (£1400) without.

We really love the Smyth but we just can't justify it and is way over the budget we have set (and that was a generous budget). I have emailed the Smyth to say we really appreciate their offer, but it is out of our price range, however if they can do us a deal for nearer £1500 (and maybe forgo the upgrade) then we'd be willing to pay a bit more as Smyth is our first choice.

I doubt they will be able to do it and I don't blame them, they have been generous enough already, but no harm asking, right?

If not then, we'll go with the Affinia. It is rated a lot higher than the Smyth and it seems very nice still, so it's not like we would be taking a massive downgrade if we changed to the Dumont.

You are right no harm in asking at all. But its good you are keeping your budget in mind, it is so easy to get carried away with hotels

Re the Dumont what do you mean with/without suite - I thought all of the rooms were suites?
Do you mean 1 bedroom vs junior suite? Their rooms are very large so I would say don't go for the 1 bedroom unless you really need a sitting room area
Skyline view rooms are really beautiful as wake6 says the view of the Chrysler just beautiful.

    Yes, sorry.

We can get a Skyline room for £9.30 extra per night.
Or a Junior Suite (skyline room, but a corner suite with a small living area) for £20 extra per night. We'll probably opt for the Skyline though.

Yes do go for the skyline. The corner suite will be a 1 bed suite which is nice but a junior suite will have more than enough room.

    How exciting!!:j

Our view from a junior skyline suite (I think it was room 3206):

And looking East down 34th Street to the East River (the room had big windows facing North and facing East):

Right, I've read page after page of various new York threads on here and my head is swimming!
The other half and I are planning to go in November, looking to leave on 24th for 7 days.
Very early planning stages, and trying to sort out a realistic budget
Flights seem to be no cheaper than £1024 ish for two.
What sort of budget is realistic for hotel?
I'm thinking that just under 2k to get us both out there and accommodated seems about right?

Planning what to do, maps etc is more my forte
    thanks

We went this November for the Black Friday sales and stayed 4 nights at the Wellington Hotel for £678 per person incl flights from LHR, on Expedia. Although the same trip is showing for £1,520 per person at the moment, (or £1,920 per person for your 6 nights) so I'm guessing prices will come down a lot, I'd hope! We usually book 2 -3 months ahead.

    Thanks Josie

Out of interest, who did you fly with and was it a package or separate flights/hotel?
I'm also wondering about prices going down, and your post seems to point towards that. So many decisions!

Does anyone know where I'm supposed to enter the APIS information for delta? I can't find anything.
