I've seen the Yotel for around £65 per night which looks like a good location just off Times Square plus it gets very good reviews. It's on Hotwire as a "hidden" hotel but all the signs point to Yotel. Any thoughts?

We stayed at Yotel a couple of years ago and loved it! The room is on the small side, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. If the price is right, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. A bonus is also free tea/ coffee and muffins in the mornings.

Location wise, as 1st time visitors we found it very good, with a 10 minute walk to Times Square

    Have a fab time!

OK it's booked! Yotel for £510 via Hotwire with some help from the nice people at Betterbidding. That includes all taxes and charges so very happy with that!

So - the next question is what are the "must-do" things in NYC? I know that is a daft question as there are millions of things to do but where do I even start to look?

Does anyone know if Virgin have sales to NYC in the new year?

We are asking for Virgin vouchers for Christmas to help with costs, but obviously if they have a sale on that would help things massively.

Bargain. Where do you start - page 175... lol only joking. The forum has lots of great information especially on the first page. Everyone will chip in once you have an idea of where to go.

    I recommend
    Top of the Rock
    New York Water Taxi
If you would like to go to the 9/11 memorial try and book tickets online now

Hello yes they probably will do. When you plan on travelling. Ba also have sales I tend to find them cheaper than VA.

Could you ask for £ so you are not limited to one company?

You know it is a daft question yet still ask it.. :rotfl:
I could give you a long list of awesome unique things to do in NYC, but without knowing anything about you, it could be totally wrong.
You could be a vegetarian tee-totaller, so recommending my favourite barbeque restaurant following by a brewery tour would be a bit silly..

Anyway, first things. Buy a guidebook, something like Time Out, or similar. This will help with the tourist spots and the planning. Subway is a good way to get around, and it is FAST, when compared to other ways, I know what bb69 is on about with walking, though I can never seem to get to grips with a holiday walking pace, and still walk far too fast, and I love the Subway anyway.. Buses are just as important too though.

Once you've got your guidebook, I plan like this. My day has 4 quarters. AM / Lunch / PM / Night Time. Don't put precise times on things, but I can easily be out of the hotel by 8am, or 11am depending on my mood, and I'll be back at the hotel by 11pm or 4am depending what I end up doing. Don't overload your days, put one tourist things in each of the AM / PM sections, plan some food and other activities around the others.

Ok.. I've waffled on for too long now.

I’m going to New York next month for a few days and I want to take in as much as possible. I was thinking about doing a bus tour and a boat tour (I want to see the statue of liberty) does anyone have any companies they recommend? I was also thinking about doing a night bus tour but I’m not sure if its really worth it?

Is the carmel car service still the best way to get to and from the Airport? I don’t mind if it’s a little more expensive than public transport I just want to get there without any hassle.

    Thank you

I'm not a fan of tours generally. If you want to see the Statue of Liberty, then book to go there with Statue Cruises. This is the only place to get official tickets to go there. If you only want to go past, then the free Staten Island Ferry passes reasonably close by to get a good view.

Bus Tours are not my thing, maybe do a loop of the HOHO, but they ain't transportation and they're expensive too. I much prefer to create my own tour, and wander around, or use NYC public transportation (bus or subway).

As for the BEST way to get from the airport to your hotel, well that depends. Subway is convenient and probably the quickest, but depends on where you're staying may mean it is easier than a taxi.

Carmel or Dial 7 are car services, so there is always a bit of hanging around when you're at the airport waiting for them to turn up. Depends on which terminal you land at (again you don't say), means that it could be a bit of trek to get to the pick up place, and the queue for the Taxi's could be shorter than the wait. Bear in mind though that the car service should be cheaper than a trip into Manhattan by Taxi, which is around $70 when you factor in toll and tip. You'll save about $10 using a car service.

    BOOKED IT

It's that time of the year, where I've got authorization from the boss, and I've now been able to book a really good holiday. Last time I did a holiday of this length it was back in March 2011, when I did NYC / San Francisco, so I'm due a decent holiday!

Flying LHR - JFK on the 22nd Feb with Delta, annoyingly on the 12:50 departure, for some reason Delta are not running the usual 10am departure that day. I've booked Economy Comfort for each of the leg of the flights, Staying for 7 nights at the King & Grove Williamsburg. Will probably just jump in a Taxi from JFK...

Stayed at this hotel last year and I do love the location, it is better than the Hotel Le Jolie, and around the same price now, especially this time of year.

I booked it a while ago when the rates were good on a cancellable rate, and had to change dates. When I changed the dates, the concierge just applied the lowest price across the entire week, so that's a good saving. $179 per night for a King Room with Balcony.

On the 1st March I head to LGA airport and then have 5 nights in Chicago, staying at a Bar/Restaurant/Guest House called Longman & Eagle, and it is the first time I've been to Chicago, if anyone has any recommendations, drop me a message. :D

Fly back to the UK via Detroit, get into LHR at 11am, head home, and then I'm straight to the pub as it is my birthday. Wooooo

I can sleep all day Saturday can't I?

    Roll on February.

    Hello
I recommend the New York Water Taxi. It does Hop on Hop Off - I went on year in December it was cold but a great tour and excellent views of Statue of Liberty as the boat stops near there for photo's

I wouldn't bother with a night bus tour. That's my personal opinion. It gets dark at 1630

What airport do you come into? If JFK i'd say hop in a taxi. I ordered a car for the first time from newark to manhattan. It was a bit of hassle, only because we were told the car would be waiting and the colour, it wasn't there so I called from my mobile as easier than trying to find another phone inside.
