Thought I'd share this link as it's a while since I've flown into Newark as prefer JFK, but going into Newark this time.

A useful summary, which backs up previous advice on here about public transport being the cheapest and most reliable option of travel to and from the airport.

Thanks Josie. I love the way the journey for the limo is slightly quicker than the taxi - maybe cars move out of the way for limo's ;)

Excellent! safe journey and enjoy yourself. I must try VA clubhouse one day..

If you see a woman crying in a corner tomorrow in Macy's because of the crowds that will be me...!

Wow - Well that was a weekend and a half.. Had another amazing time - miss NYC already.

Weather was cold but not awful, lovely blue skies and no rain. The weather actually got milder - didn't need gloves but wore coat, hat and scarf.

Black Friday - The day after should be renamed exhausted Saturday ;) I am still recovering!!! but such great fun. Shopped for 14 hours on the Friday from 0630 in the morning (would have been rude not too ;))... this was indeed a shopping trip and I would go next year too!

Macys opened at 8pm Thanksgiving day - very busy. Some shops opened midnight and others from between 0200 and 0500

Great discounts between 20 and 60% off in some places and not just selected items places like Gap and Armani Exchange had discount on all items and also extra discounts off sale items in shops too. Majority of discounts were on Friday, but also continued throughout the weekend (e.g 50% Friday - 40% Saturday - 30% Sunday).

I recommend The Roger Hotel (31st and Madison) - great location (my favourite location) very friendly staff (really felt welcome) - lovely rooms - although very small bathroom but its ok - also heard talking in adjacent room but didn't disturb us.

We were on the 7th floor facing Madison Avenue and heard no street noise.

The hotel do add on a service charge and room tax per night approx $25 however I booked via a package which did not mention this on confirmation - so they waived the fee. So do take this into consideration if booking.

They also have complimentary wine hour and apple cider in the lobby - great after a cold day.

Union Square has a lovely Christmas market and tried something new ate at NanKing a Chinese restaurant - Broadway and 51st - stumbled across it and the food was very nice and not too expensive - I would go back again.

Hired a wheelchair which was delivered too and collected from hotel which was great too - bigapplemobility. Didn't receive paperwork but spoke with the driver who collected.

Edit - Used Dial 7 - was ok probably would have been easier to hop in cab as had to wait a little while and call from my mobile after being told would be outside, but once arrived a smooth journey so potentially would use again if landing in Newark. There are freephone booths and you need to dial 77 if using one of them in Newark.

Edit again - Regarding travel money - to book and collect from airport T5 - Travelex need 4 hours notice and you need to pay before. Moneycorp you can order online and collect straight away at good rate of 1.6+ - just in case you decide you need a little more $

Any questions please feel free to ask

Phatbear - How did you get on?
