    Hi!

Going to NYC for a week on New Years Day - can't wait!

Only thing is I'm trying to get a great deal on hotels and when I normally go to the states I use Priceline to get something decent. However I have no clue which of these areas are best for tourism or which to avoid.

Can anyone help? Or are there any other booking strategies which are recommended besides Priceline? Would like something 3.5 stars or above if possible and trying to keep the budget around $100 per night but if that's not realistic I could increase it...

Oh sounds fantastic. I have never tried priceline as I like to stay in Murray Hill/Chelsea area and I like to know what I am booking

    What is your maximum budget?

Edit - Have you looked on Travelzoo NYC they sometimes have good deals

I just searched on Ba.com (there are other websites but its my go to website as a starting point)

You could get Holiday Inn 57th for £645 for a week

    Holiday Inn Soho £687

King & Grove Manhattan £708 (I have stayed here, it was nice, very clean etc but it wouldn't be my first choice to stay again)

I don't know whether $100 per night is realistic for Manhattan. There are many others what is your upper limit for budget?

Everyone will have a different opinion on this one - but this is mine.

1st time - Stayed 94th Street and 2nd avenue - For me way too far out but we didn't know any better - still had a great time though.

All other times (now 5 visits in total) have stayed near the Empire State Building (East 29-34th streets between Park and Madison Avenues) and have loved it. The area is called Murray Hill/Chelsea

    My reasons:
A quieter area with only a short walk to the hustle and bustle
Near to shopping a few blocks from Fifth Avenue, Macys, Empire State Building and beyond
    Can walk to Times Square
Can walk comfortably walk down town to Union Square and Soho for more shopping etc
I mainly use bus, walking or cabs (very few) - I prefer not to use Subways

I love walking in NYC soaking up the atmosphere - I don't spend much time uptown near Bloomingdales/central park etc so for me being in Murray Hill/Chelsea area works very well. But even so I tend to walk uptown as well which is an easy and pleasurable walk.

Personally whilst I love Times Square and do visit it at least once (so magical) I wouldn't stay in of off of there as its very busy.

I don't think there is a best area as such, you will make the most of the city wherever you are. I would suggest aiming to stay 30-50 streets, also the avenue you are on will depend whether you are closer in or further out

Have any taken your fancy so far?

I've seen the Yotel for around £65 per night which looks like a good location just off Times Square plus it gets very good reviews. It's on Hotwire as a "hidden" hotel but all the signs point to Yotel. Any thoughts?

    Hi
The location is west 42nd and 10th avenue so not quite just off Times Square but wouldn't be a long walk

Have you had a look at reviews on Trip advisor? I looks like a nice hotel and has some good reviews from the few I looked at - The thing I picked up on from some of the reviews was that the beds were not that comfortable. But £65 a night is an excellent price but you do want to make sure you have a comfortable room as you are there for a week.
