Just got back from Vegas where the guys in the LV thread helped me start to finish (only booked it 4 weeks ago!)

I am now relying on you guys to help me out with New York! Want to go in May with my girlfriend for 7 nights. Will read this thread and ask questions later :)

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Random question, but does anyone know where I'd be able to get eggnog? Not from a carton as I'm sure I'll be able to find that easily enough. I've always wanted to try it but I'm not sure where to look.

Hi we are talking eggnog in NYC . Most decent pubs will serve eggnog in NYC but it will almost certainly from a bottle . Eggnog when i have (tried) to make it in the past means heating and cooling eggs/cream/ milk etc & adding stuff vanilla brandy etc along the way . Nanna used to make great eggnog at xmas we used to sleep all night just in time for lunch and more eggnog or eggflip .
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world

    Hi All,

I'm looking at visiting NY for 5 nights Jan/Feb time in 2015.

Do you think i should book up early as possible or wait closer to the time? (i'm sure i have read booking just a couple months in advance sometimes gives the cheapest prices, but i am wary of this)

I was thinking of booking through Last Minute/Expedia etc... or do you find that booking hotels and flights seperate provides a bigger saving?

    Thanks for your help.

Definitely book closer to the time. If your dates are not fixed you should be able to get good deals in the sales which will occur mid to late 2014.

Do some pricing up now to get an idea of prices. I always find my better £ holidays are via a package. But its all about where you want to stay and also your budget. What is your budget?

A few people on Facebook have recommended The Edison as somewhere cheap and in the middle of it all. Any views on it?

Would like to pre book the Wollman Rink, can anyone recommend where to buy the tickets on line, is there an official site to pre book?

    Thank you

I'm booking mine from viator, as I've already booked from there before. Tickets are £12.10 for weekdays, and £16.34 at weekends. They have the schedule of the opening hours so you know which day to book for, as it closes early on somedays, incase you were looking to go at a particular time.

Yeah, read the thread, create your own questions, and we can help with planning, but I know for one, the regulars on here we won't plan your holiday for you. If you need that, pay a travel agent. ;)

I'm heading to NYC in February 2014. I've not even booked my flight yet. Flights are normally quite stable prices. Prices won't even go on sale until 330 days before departure. Hotels in Jan/Feb are CHEAP (well cheap for NYC). I'd plan things, set your budget, and see what you can get for Feb 2014. It'll give you some kind of idea. Ideally you want to be booking around this time next year.

In the middle of what? A tourist area with 1000's of tourists? Yes. It is, it's just off Times Square. It's an old hotel (I've stayed there twice), it's massive and impersonal, it's functional and clean. I personally wouldn't stay there, but I don't want to see Times Square every single time I want to go somewhere. What are you aiming for out of your holiday to NYC?

My budget is around £650-700 per person (2 of us going). Would be willing to spend more if a good offer on a hotel is available.

This is our first time to New York so would have no problems with staying in and around Times Square. But all recommendations including areas to stay are welcome with me being a NY virgin.
  • We are taking our 10 year old for 4 days at end of March and am feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of hotel choice!

Does anyone have any personal recommendations and also is it worth waiting till nearer time to book?

    Thanks
