Quick views on hotel please:
Carlton on Madison or Roger
I am leaning towards Carlton

First and foremost, welcome to our little corner of MSE. Not bad flights for Easter, hope that includes a bag though. Jet2 as far as I'm aware fly into Newark, New Jersey, which makes it slightly more inconvenient to some of the recommended hotels in more affordable areas. NYC isn't cheap for hotels.
What you need to do, is give us your exact dates you need a hotel for, the amount of people, and what beds you need, and finally, most importantly, the budget per night.
15% of your budget is taken up in taxes each night, so you've got to take that into account too.
Finally, don't consider an apartment, because they are illegal in NYC, and from what I've read online soon will be in Barcelona too!

Thanks for that. No bags - just carry on. Its all we ever take anywhere - even for 2 weeks. DD and I will easily just fill 1 carry on and the other will be to bring stuff back if see anything. All our friends laugh at us, but we really travel light :rotfl:
We are staying 17-20 April, plan on the train from Newark station to Penn. I've provisionally booked The Newyorker, as its easy to get to from station and then once we've dumped the bags I don't mind travelling by subway to get to places. This can be cancelled anytime til 24hrs before so I am still looking.
Hotel is for me and DD (15) and I'd like to spend no more than £500. Near to a subway (which I've yet to understand - the letter /numbers seems confusing). We won't be in the hotel for long so easy to get too and clean/friendly is top priority for me.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

I would recommend Hotel Metro on 35th street. Metro access at the end of the street. It is coming in at just under £600 for the dates you are wanting, but its well worth it.
I recommended it to 2 other people and they agreed with me.
Have a great time!!!0 -

has anyone ever visited New York in March? We're looking to go next March to cover a couple of big birthdays and we were looking at going 14th - 19th but I've just realised that this will be the St Patrick's day weekend.
Does anyone know if this will be too busy? We're not too bothered about the parade, more interested in the theatre and sight-seeing. We can move it to the week before or after so I'm just looking to get an idea of what it's going to be like as this will be our first visit
I was there 15 - 20 March in 2010 and it was fine, not noticeably different to usual apart from a few groups of people in leprechaun costumes. We went out to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty during the day on the 17th, then had a wander round the shops in Manhattan early evening - no problems at all with crowds. I don't recall hotel prices being any higher than normal over that period either, though I'm not certain on that point.0 -

Has anyone been on this tour? And are there different providers who all offer the similar/better versions of this tour?
I quite fancy doing this as something a bit different - i'm travelling with my mum so it could be a nice way to spend an afternoon.0 -
We have been paddys day weekend and had a ball . Seen the cast from the commitments INC Andrew Strong at BB Kings . Great concert . Parade was good too we hung around FAO Schwartz (spl)dipping in and out of a local boozer. Its busier on the parade route but that means other places are slightly quieter:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Random question, but does anyone know where I'd be able to get eggnog? Not from a carton as I'm sure I'll be able to find that easily enough. I've always wanted to try it but I'm not sure where to look.0
