Im rubbish at directions in new york , never even been on the subway and only ever walked /taxi & bused around manhattan (WE HAVE A WHEELCHAIR USER IN OUR GROUP) I love the walk tbh . Meeting the people and getting some facetime with some locals and they love our accent i could tell them we are john lennons nephew and be instant heroes .

Love walking around NYC I do find navigating with a wheelchair good but crossing the road difficult as not all pavements are lowered and some not enough so found walking further to be able to cross the road.

We had difficulty fitting a wheelchair we borrowed from hotel in one of the larger taxis - actually it didn't fit, maybe it was my technique lol

It gets me that at the "crossroads of the world" you have a dropped kerb on one side and as you cross the lights change and there can be a 14inch kerb on the other. We found a subway with a ramp down only for a turnstyle at the bottom (was around 42nd or 55th)

  • Mark,

Where's the best bar in Brooklyn to watch the Scotland v USA football game? It starts over there at 3.05pm. Ive got a list of bars from your pub crawl.

    Hi all,
In NYC at the min. Staying in tribeca right on the 123 lines and we are going to get back to JFK by the underground, do we need to get an additional ticket or can we just use our normal pass?

Walk out of the Cosmopolitan Hotel on Chambers Street, turn Left, walk to the end of the block and take the A train to Howard Beach. This will get you to the AirTrain on your normal MetroCard, you'll then need to pay $5 to use the AirTrain to your terminal.

How is NYC? How is the Cosmo?

Soccer you mean... Hmm.. It's a tough one. There aren't many Sports Bars in Williamsburg.

You could try 4th Down - http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/4th-down-brooklyn-2 - They've got a number of screens so that may help.

Most of the other bars that I go to in Williamsburg, don't even have a TV screen. Maybe South 4th Bar will put it on, as it probably won't be a busy time, and they're more of a neighbourhood bar than anything. Only got 1 tv though IRRC.

    Best of luck!

If anybody is going to NYC this week or next week like me, we are about 2 weeks to early for all the xmas markets/stalls/fares etc, there is however one that has started:

Bryant Park xmas market 1st November

    http://blog.bryantpark.org/2013/11/shop-season-bryant-park-vendor-map.html

The next one open is Friday 15th November:

    McCarren Rink in Brooklyn

Then its Grand Central on the 18th Nov, Union Square 21st Nov and Columbus Circle on the 4th Dec
  • We are looking at heading to NYC in the last week of March 2014 before the prices rise for the spring and summer. Our budget it about £650 all in per person.

At the moment we're looking at about £650 for 5 nights with direct flights LHR -JFK with Virgin, staying in a 3 star hotel in a good location.

I've ran the flights through flightcheckers and stuff like Kayak to see when the best price to buy is. They are generally saying buy now or approx. 60 days before departure. We cannot afford to buy now.

    My questions are:

    1) Is this a good deal or could we get cheaper nearer the time do you think?
    2) Is it worth waiting until Virgin and other airlines have their New Years sales and are things like New years sales factored into flight price info on sites such as Kayak.
    3) From experience when do you get the best deals?
    4) Is there a discount diners card for NY, like we have a Taste card here?
