Not necessarily, I've booked the Pod for $99+tax per night - might not be to everyones taste but it does get good reviews.0 -
oooh had to post on here after months of reading, saving and planning my 1st trip is starting to become real!
Managed to get cheap flights (£260) to JFK for October, and have used my Holiday Inn loyalty points for a hotel for 3 nights at the start of October for Mr Wales & my 10th wedding anniversary (he has absolutely no idea, which is why I'm so excited, I'm even whispering as I type lol!!)
Just booked crown access tickets for SoL on the Monday morning at 8am - I'm hoping it won't be as crowded at this time. Great way to spend our last morning in NYC, although I'm sure we'll be shattered by the time we get on the plane at 9pm!!
Other things I'd like to do is get tickets to an American Football game, maybe see some live music and I've registered for a Big Apple Greeter so I'm hoping that happens, as well as all the usual 'must see's.
Cannot wait !! Bring on NYC :j:T:j0 -
New yorker is a nice hotel we had a massive room and a double bed each for about £700 5 nights and this was well worth it!! however I have noticed a big increase in price this year ( for later in the year) and for the price compared to other hotels you can get for much less its not worth it.
We liked The Pod hotel is very clean and nice location on 51st street.
I would prob stay there again if I got a good deal however I'd get bunk beds as the 'double' bed was more like a single and we had to sleep top and tail as we both couldnt fit in it. Didnt sleep well at all because of this. Id day that if you want space its not for you- small is not the word, the room is so tiny and so is the bathroom.
Welshie, Sounds like your husband is going to be very shocked and very happy.
You wont regret booking the crown tickets, the views form the crown are amazing. We booked in for 8.30 and it was quiet no queues but when we were leaving at about 11ish we noticed how busy it was getting then. Dont forget to take ID with you, we didnt actually know we needed it however thankfully we both had it on us.New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

thanks thatsfab, pleased you said the crown is worth it as I'd ummed and ahhed over it - don't mean to sound ignorant but everyone seems to say how much better Ellis Island is, and I just don't see the appeal? It's not like i have ancestral interest, and the SoL is surely one of the most recognized buildings in the world?
did you do Ellis as well, or just SoL in that time? really want to maximise every minute in NYC, but I did quite enjoy alcatraz in SF so who knows? perhaps Ellis is worth a look around?
thanks for the tip on ID - must remeber that0 -
Yes its very good they treated us like VIP's and for an extra couple of dollars aswell I think its well worth it also I read they will be shutting it again soon to do work inside of Liberty.
Well I have been 3 times, first two time with my mum and third time with my friend. Myself and my mum were never interested in going to ellis island so never went however my friend wanted to go so I said ok.
I honestly expected it to be boring and nothing that interested me like you say however It was excellent, seeing what people had to go through to get into America and most of the people were from England and Ireland too. For me going to Ellis island more than liberty island really made me see how much of a symbol of hope and freedom liberty was then to so many people wanting a better life.
Im so glad I went in the end.
If your not sure I would get off at ellis island, see what you think and then if you dont like it get the next ferry back. They come every 30mins and there is a cafe there to.New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

Boston and New York are the main gateways to America from Europe and Africa .Ellis Isle is the fabric of the country, the pockets in the overcoat When and if you think about mass movement to most of America they had to pass through (or refused entrance)in this fort like building i hope you try to go with eyes open its very interesting and shows immegration on mass into a baron country(still is in most parts) hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

I'm currently looking for flights London-New York departing London 21st July and departing New York 31st August... I don't have much flexibility but may be able to do +-1 day. Haven't found any flights below £521 return. I think this is pretty standard but was just wondering if anyone knew anywhere I might be able to get it any cheaper at all before I book? Also, is it good to book now or better to wait longer? Thanks.0

Good evening from a very wet and cold NYC! We were supposed to fly home yesterday but now have an enforced extra 5 days holiday (unfortunately with no free hotel or food vouchers - we were told to claim when we get home) and will hopefully be flying back on Wednesday.
I highly recommend the Affinia Manhattan - very nice suite hotel with large rooms, 1 and 1/2 baths, good view from the 21st floor and within reasonable walking distance to a lot of places - we were there until we had to check out yesterday, we spent last night in the Pan Am in Queens, which isn't recommended! Tonight, and the rest of our stay will be in the Grand Union hotel, hastily booked at JFK this afternoon, not great, very small room but good position.
Currently in Starbucks using their free wifi!
My main complaint is that my suitcase is already full to bursting and I can't do anymore shopping!“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”
