Im planning to go to NY next Sept for a week or so (around 13th or 14th travel) - looking at flights from Scotland - cost is around 585 at the moment. Will these drop a little does anyone know?Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0

Depends how far you can walk. W45th Street is over a mile long in itself, so just saying that street doesn't really help. If you're W45th and 12th Ave, it's around 1.6 miles to walk to the Empire State Building.
If you're W45th Street and 5th Ave, it's 0.6 miles.
One is more walkable than the other...0 -

Worth holding out on booking the flights just now, as that price does seem a bit high. What airport are you looking at flying from? I just put in a week flying on the 13/09/2013 and direct flights to Newark come in at £522.
I'd expect to pay around the £500 mark for flights from most Scottish airports these days.0 -

Thanks VestanPance - hope to fly from Edin or Glasgow but if it made a huge difference we could do Newcastle or Manc too - would really prefer a direct flight rather than connecting anywhere but dont mind a stop.Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -

We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express which although addressed as 5th Ave, is actually just round the corner on 45th, so o.6 miles is fine. I'm just at the stage of planning our itinerary, so may be asking other questions too. Thanks:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0 -

I've never found there to be anything in the way of savings by flying from the likes of Manchester when you add the travel costs of getting down and back from there.
If I was you I'd just keep an eye on prices using the likes of a website such as Kayak.0 -
I'm off to New York on Friday :j and would like to thank everyone for the masses of advice I've been given following my questions and picked up from the thread generally.
As a first time traveller to New York I wondered what you regulars would do/see if you could have your first NY trip over again?0 -
I would go about 30 years earlier . A great fan of American East Coast Music would have given my right arm to have witnessed the dirty sleazey ghetto areas from Midnight Cowboy Cheech & Chong ,Central Park hippy Lennon. Music scene . Our first trip was decided by our kids as we had a "Where in the world " eldest wanted to ice skate in the rockafella & youngest wanted to shop in a mall BRATZ style. After the devastation of the twin towers New York took on a much safer place to visit . Esp with kids. hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0
