Dunno where you're getting $9 from but an esta is $14

$14 is approx £9 at current rate, so possible she meant £9 not $9?

Annie, for future visits this is where you should go to get your ESTA https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ .
I'm guessing you clicked on one of the ads listed at the top of the Google page. Unfortunately there have been dozens of threads/posts from others who have done the same as you but I'm afraid this one has to be chalked up to experience and learn from your mistake for next time.

So if everything goes according to plan, I should be heading to NYC on the 29th of March and we'll be there for 5 nights. Any advice?

Do you need to print of the information once it's confirmed? Cos I did this a couple of months back for my trip and just remembered I might need it!

Theres no need to print it as your esta is linked to your passport number but in case of any issues at the border it never hurts to have documentary evidence with you

ESTA comes up so often, and people still don't know how to use google. So, I've spent some time, and made this, to help people learn how google works.

If you google ESTA, you'll get some adverts (under the bit says ads), and then you get the official link, which charges $14 per person.

So, here is what my Google Search Results looks like. Ads will change, the 1st entry has always been the same since the ESTA launched, and even when it was free.

    estatraining.png

1 - Adverts - These are services relating to ESTA. These are in a coloured box.
2 - More Adverts - These are services relating to ESTA, these are in a sidebar so easy to spot.
3 - The FIRST google result. None of the other results above or to the right are the FIRST google result. They are adverts. If you've clicked on the adverts, then you missed the word adverts, and the coloured box, or the different formatting. This first result has the word government, and official in the description. It also comes from a .gov web address, which only governments can have. All other links are .com .net. eu, etc, which are all commercial and anyone has the ability to buy.

If your screen cannot see the coloured box above around the ads above where the big red arrow and number 1 is. (which is above number 3), then I'd encourage you to go over to the techy forum, and ask people how to correctly calibrate your monitor, as you've got a huge issue with your computer.

    Hope that helps

Also need a good reputable airport parking co for heathrow any ideas recommendations??

Meteor Meet & Greet is who I've used a few times at Heathrow - http://www.meteormeetandgreet.com/

Anything off site I find a pain, because the cost saving is taken away by the time taken.

Sad I think about things like that, but my job is all about workflow. Example. Something costs £50, but a cheaper one costs £30. It takes 1 hour (30 mins each way), to transfer from the cheap one to the terminal, whereas the more expensive one is at the terminal, but my time is worth a minimum of £25 for the hour, therefore the cheaper one actually costs £55 and therefore it isn't the best workflow. Simple really...

Seldom i disagree with you but.....

Regardless of how much you get paid an hour you're not losing out because no one would be paying you for that time anyway. If you followed this through then you wouldnt sit in bars etc in holiday cos, as an old man once said to me half way up mount snowdon, "time is money"

But 30 minutes extra in bed before having to set off to the airport. I'll take that! ;)

And I am being paid for my time, as it is holiday. I get paid holiday from work, therefore the more efficient things are.. We'll agree to disagree then shall we.. :)

One can have a 'notional' value of one's time, even on holiday, IMO!

why take a hour to walk to a pub 5 miles down the beach when it can take 6 hours calling in at every pub on the way there & back (making good use of resting points, local reserch & to save dehydration)
