Everything & Anything New York City

Depends on the hotel. If it is the Hotel Carter, then steer clear, if you've suddenly got £100 more on your budget, then that changes things.
The thing with NYC is that prices of hotels can change by the day. Additionally, hotels in NY are never per person, and are per room, so it's really difficult to understand what your budget it.
£1000 and £1100 are different prices, and at a cheap time of year like February, you can some good deals. I've just glanced at lastminute, and nothing shouts out as a great deal, and are very bland hotels, but if you want to do an expensive city on a tight budget, that's all you really have as a choice. Personally, I'd rather save, and get a nicer hotel, in a great location, and stay longer too.

Hi m4rkm,
Personaly I would love to have a nicer hotel and stay longer too, but alas this will be first big trip abroad and I have been saving all year for it. I do see what you say though, maybe I should think more in terms of a total price of £1000 for two would make my day, but for something nicer we would go to £1250.
I am going to take yours and bb69 advice and see what I end up with.Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0 -
Thinking about going to NY in April (Easter holidays). Is it too soon to be looking for deals? Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost for 5 days? Two single beds in a hotel, preferably in Manhattan. Just looking for something with a low-budget.
What is your "low" budget. My low budget is $200 a night, some one elses is $50 a night, being specific would help immensely.
First thoughts are around your idea of wanting two single beds. This rarely happens, and there are few hotels that offer single beds. They'll offer 2 doubles, or 2 queens, but not 2 singles. Prices in the US are based on per room. 1 person could occupy a room with 2 queens, or 4 people, and it would still cost the same.
How much will it cost? £450 each for flights seems to be where things have settled down to. Hotels range from anything, so choose your location first, and then see if your budget matches.hellokitty08 wrote: »Hi m4rkm,

February is cheap and you can get bargains. I'd personally hang fire. I'm heading out to NYC on the 27th Feb, and I'm booking nothing yet. Next month, I may make a provisional booking of a hotel, but it will be fully cancellable and I'll be able to change it if a deal comes up. The problem with the package deals you're seeing from the likes of lastminute etc, is that once you're booked, you can't change a thing. This is why I much prefer flights / hotels separately.
Hope that helps, and good luck...

To all i would say keep aeye out for deals but NYC & areas around are never "cheap" To pay top dolla to get over and then have a sh1tty hotel to even dump your stuff will not make good memories and spoil your trip. Get a reasonable budget or set your trip back a few months (or plan earlier) I have found eating out at delis or smaller cafes is cheaper that i thought it would be. We went for a few days with a £2000 flights and hotel budget(for two) and £1000 spends(for two)came back with a decent stay and a few $$ but could have upped our hotel if planned correctly .. hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Location wise, as I mentioned before Manhattan would be preferable (nowhere specific though) although if you have any ideas about where we could stay in the surrounding areas, which would be easily accessible via subway, that would be great.Clint Eastwood Movie Icon book. First Win!:j0 -

Hi what airport do you want to fly from?0 -
We have two children (who will be 14 and 9 next year) and we have always had mediteranean beach holidays. We fancy something different next year and wonder if New York would be suitable for a break with the kids. We are thinking of a week next July. Anyone any advice?0

Hiya, we have booked for two adults and 3 kids age 11,11 and 14 flying on the 27th Dec coming back through night on 1st Jan so back on the 2nd Jan. We are going flights with Virgin and staying at Eastgate Tower hotel which is near grand central station - and for under 5k. affinia hotels have good apartment syle suites to accommodate you all in one room, as that's what we needed. Hope that helps :j0 -

No, It will be too hot, too humid, and it's the wrong time of year for a great holiday to New York City. If you delayed it and went October half term, you'd probably be OK.
Also, getting the right beds in the room may be the difficulty too, at a decent cost.
